20 Signs You Went To Nazareth Academy

If you went to Nazareth Academy, here are twenty signs you will easily be able to pick out!

1. You basically knew everybody in your grade by first name.

For a school in the Chicago suburbs, Naz is quite small. With around 200 kids per grade it is pretty inevitable you get to know almost every one of your peers in the four years you’re there.

2. You checked yourself out in the giant mirror in Springer Hall.

The huge mirror that takes up a whole wall made it very tempting to at least glance at yourself during passing periods to make sure you’re looking on top of your game.

3. You miss the cafeteria cookies.

Naz, hands down has the best cookies ..ever! These large chocolate chip cookies were only $1 and you had to make sure your last buck went to buying one of them.

4. Freddie Fanatics.

Whether you were a leader or not, everyone at Naz is a Freddie Fanatic. Named after a Sister of St. Joseph, who was always cheering her heart out for the school, the Freddie Fanatics Committee makes sure each Naz event had the biggest, loudest, craziest fan section ever.

5. The rivalry against Benet.

Nothing against the people of Benet Academy, but Naz kids and Benet kids have had the biggest rivalry going back years. When there is a Naz vs. Benet game, everyone makes sure to be there. #BeatBenet.

6. You still don’t understand how Naz names their different buildings.

There is the K Building, S Building, M Building, N Building, O building; but why those specific letters? Why not alphabetical order? What is the method to their madness?

7. The “St. Joseph’s Prayer” was engraved in your head by the time you were a senior.

Without fail, at the end of the day this prayer was said and it’s hard to forget:

O most glorious St. Joseph, my patron
I entrust my heart, my body, my needs, my hopes
Now and in the future to your powerful protection.
Help me, St. Joseph, to lead a pure and blameless life.

8. You wonder why none of the walls matched.

Each floor seemed to be a different color. Whether it was red and yellow, or blue and grey, the combinations were endless. But, at least it wasn’t boring.

9. Mr. Quinn was the best sub you’ve ever had.

He’s still the most laid back guy and probably the only sub who got your name right and took the time to learn the names of every kid in the school. He deserves some kind of award.

10. Your football team won back to back state championships.

C’mon it’s hard not to brag about that. Football is HUGE at Naz. They like to win and they are pretty good at it.

11. Downtown LaGrange was THE place before you could drive.

It’s a short walk down Ogden, but whether you were going to DiNico’s, Chipotle or Starbucks, LaGrange was the place to be Fridays after school.

12. You hated the roundabout.

Especially when you started to drive yourself to school! The roundabout at the front entrance of the school could be very stressful; especially when someone is stopped and their kid has tons of sports equipment. All you could do was wait because the parent wouldn’t pull up.

13. You left class sometimes just to go to guidance.

With the jar of lifesavers and some of the funniest counselors, guidance was a great place to go if you just weren’t feeling it.

14. The Social Studies department’s Yearly Bracket.

Whether it was candy, fast food or cereal, every year the Social Studies department did a bracket where every day the students would vote against two thing. After seeing everyone vote, a lot of arguments unraveled

15. You never had to swim for gym class.

No pool, no swimming. And that was a relief because having to go swimming and change back into your uniform for the rest of the day was a no thank you.

16. The WALK was something you looked forward to.

The walk Naz does every year as a school was something exciting. Sure walking wasn’t the most fun but it kicked off the start to Homecoming weekend, and helped raise money for all extracurriculars.

17. You have the most memorable Stations of the Cross Performances.

Right before Spring Break starts, Naz puts on the Station of the Cross. Students and faculty shared emotional stories related with each station. It was a tear-jerking event. People from all over the Chicagoland area came to see it.

18. You loved your principal, president, and dean.

If you had Mrs. Tracy, Mr. Moran or Mr. Racki, you know they were born to run the school. There aren’t a more kind, respected and loving group of people. Naz is lucky to have them.

19. You have no idea what the words to the school song are and never have.

Unless you were a cheerleader, in band or just had to learn the song for something, you don’t know the school song. It has a very catchy tune and is sung at every pep rally, football game, and graduation, but the farthest you come to learning the song is shouting the last line at the very end, “To YOU dear Nazareth ba ba ba bum.”

20. Naz is a Part of Who You Are.

Naz is your home, your family. It is where you had some of the best times of your life, not to mention it is where you met your best friends, that you will stick with forever. It is a part of you and you cannot change that..but why would you want to?
