Shows To Stream When You Have Nothing Else To Watch

You know that feeling of when you finish a show you binged in two days and don’t feel like watching something intently so you search for a mindless entertainment show to fill your void? No? Just me? Well, if not, here are some shows to watch when you have simply nothing else to watch at the moment.

1. The Circle

Circle message, you: I don’t know why it’s addictive but you find yourself wanting to be an influencer alongside the contestants. #Potentialcatfish? Send. The Circle is another one of the reality shows I swore I wouldn’t watch or enjoy, but ended up both watching and begrudgingly enjoying as well. A group of contestants are held in their own rooms with no contact with the outside world. They enter a world where you can either catfish everyone or choose to play as yourself, going through obstacles to land the spot as a top influencer by the end. It sounds tacky, and probably is, but you will find yourself hooked on it by the end and won’t know how or why it happened. Either way, it’s amazing and you should do yourself a favor and watch.

2. New Girl

For fans of comedy shows following a group of friends in LA who don’t seem like they fit together but their antics are adorable, here is a show for you to watch. New Girl stars the always lovely Zooey Deschanel who plays Jessica Day, a quirky teacher who moves into a loft following a breakup with a group of grown men who act like children. You will find yourself wishing you were an honorary roommate in the loft and will be rooting for her and Nick up until the very end. There are tons of celebrity guest appearances in this show like Prince and Taylor Swift, and you’ll love to hear that a lot of the show is improv so the actors are truly engaged in their performances the entire time. It’s a classic and worlds better than binging shows like The Office for the thousandth time in a row.

3. Love Island

The great thing about reality shows like this one is that there are like a million seasons and also different countries produce their own versions of it. So, if you finish the original UK Love Island (season one is elite and you cannot fight me on this), you’ll have Australian and American versions to binge immediately after. Basically, in this show, a group of singles gets to match up with a partner and try to form a genuine connection that the public also agrees with until you make it to the end. The best part about the show is that they continuously throw new singles in the mix each week to test the relationships, and at the end, you have a chance to either split the money with your partner or keep it to yourself. Betrayal is obviously the name of the game in shows like this and you’ll be seriously addicted by the end of one season.

4. How I Met Your Mother

Shows that follow a group of friends throughout their adult lives are classic, as you can tell by the success of Friends and New Girl. To fit the theme, HIMYM is no exception. Ted Moseby is an architect in New York City during his late twenties, and he has an awesome group of chaotic friends that helped him meet the mother of his children. It starts with Ted sitting his kids down and telling them the story of how he met their mother (hence the show title), but you don’t know who the mother is until the end of the show. So, it’s almost like one of the mystery shows and a comedy all wrapped into one. There’s a classic love story (Marshall and Lily), Robin (who Ted has loved forever), and Barney (the playboy played by Neil Patrick Harris providing the ultimate comic relief). You won’t regret turning a feel-good show like this on at all.

5. Are You The One?

I always swore reality shows dedicated to finding someone to marry or whatever were tacky, but as I watch now I don’t know why I can’t rip my eyes from the screen until it’s over. This one has contestants take a compatibility test before entering the show, and they are secretly matched up before arriving. However, the catch is that they don’t know who their match is and it’s their jobs to correctly pair up by the end for the opportunity to win $100,000. The other caveat is that each week there is a matching ceremony, where they couple up and are revealed beams to show the correct amount of right matches without giving away who those matches are. If there are no beams revealed, the players lose $25,000 per “blackout.” It’s more fun when there’s a clearly toxic couple who is revealed not to be a match, but choose to stay together regardless because they claim they’re deeply in love. Clearly shows like this just get me.

6. Schitt’s Creek

Please, please, please just watch this show if you have not had the pleasure to yet. The once extremely wealthy Rose family finds themselves in a predicament when the government takes all of their belongings and they are suddenly poor. Gone are the high-life-living days they were accustomed to when they are left with no choice but to move to a town they purchased as a joke called Schitt’s Creek. Now living in two motel rooms, Alexis, David, Johnny, and Moira are all characters within themselves trying to re-learn how to live a semi-normal life. There are so many iconic lines from shows like this that you probably missed if you haven’t watched it yet. You’ll find yourself wanting Alexis and David as your friends, and Moira and Johnny offer their own quirky advice as they struggle to be normal again and make their fortune back.

Streaming these shows will surely give you something to do while you wait for a new season of Grey’s to come back. Let me know your go-to show in the comments below!
