The weather is turning, the leaves are falling, and the pumpkin patches are open for business. This can only mean one thing: Halloween is on its way!!
This means that Halloween parties are also on the horizon and you’re going to need a costume that’ll hold up for the entire weekend of wild college parties. Or at least that’s what Hollywood says and when have they ever lied? Here are some Halloween costume ideas to get you through the scariest day of the year.
It’s the beginning of the twenties again after all, so let’s throw it back to the Roaring Twenties! This flapper costume would have Jay Gatsby himself turning his head. Just don’t let him take you towards the green light.
Though I don’t care for the name of the costume, Grease is still a fun movie musical and you’d be lying if you said you’d never thought of dressing up as Sandy at the end of the movie. Now’s your chance! Find your Danny to make a cute couples costume, and bonus points to you if you can get your car to inexplicably fly away at the end of the party.
Maybe the high seas are more to your taste? Check out this pirate lady costume to fulfill all of your swashbuckling needs!
If you’re a fan of fairy tales, then this Little Red Riding Hood costume is for you! Just make sure that you keep an eye out for big bad wolves while you’re out.
If you’ve always wanted to be a mermaid now is your chance! This costume will ensure that your fins shimmer even outside of the ocean. Watch out for the evil sea witches!
Nightmare on Elm Street but make it fashion. Bring a little pizzazz to your horrors with this costume.
Maybe you’re not really into Halloween and just want something subtle and comfortable? This skeleton costume is right up your alley!
What’s Halloween without the stereotypical nurse costume as an option. This is a favorite of Hollywood for some reason, even though when I think about it I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone actually dress up as a nurse?
If you ever dreamed of being the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz but his outfit didn’t do it for you, then maybe this could be a good alternative! It’s definitely a lot more girly if that was what you were going for.
If the 50’s aesthetic is something you enjoy, then this is the costume for you. Once you put it on it won’t be long before you’re tap dancing around like Gene Kelly!
Who doesn’t enjoy a literal costume? It’s like a pun come to life or something. It’s accurate too considering you know you’ll want to leave that party with the entire candy bowl.
Who needs a knight in shining armor when you can be your own knight? Forget the whole damsel in distress motif and take up your sword and shield to slay your own monsters.
Listen, I think this costume is supposed to be some cute call back to childhood but I always found Raggedy Anns to be a little creepy. So I guess that makes this the perfect Halloween costume right? There;s nothing more unsettling than a doll who’s eyes watch you as you move around a room.
If you’re the friend who is in charge of making sure everyone gets home safely from the party, then this is your costume. You will certainly feel like you’re in a circus as you go around making sure your friends don’t do anything too embarrassing. The real circus though will be when you’re trying to round them all up to go home.
What’s Halloween without some superhero and villain options? First up is Poison Ivy because of course. Some people might argue for Catwoman first but Poison Ivy wins because her costume feels as though it could double for an evil Tinkerbell costume if you like her better. We love versatility.
If we’re putting up Poison Ivy as an option, then it’s only fair that Batgirl is made an option for those of you who prefer the heroes over the villains. Either way, you can never go wrong choosing one of the Gotham ladies as a costume no matter what side they are on. Just don’t let the Joker catch you.
Going back to the classics for a second, why not a vampire? One of the ultimate symbols of Halloween, everyone will love to see a vampire gliding in their midst on this one night. Stay away from the garlic bread and you’re sure to have a good time peering mysteriously around your cloak at the other party goers. You’ll make Dracula proud.
We’re all excited about the release of Wonder Woman 1984 so why not celebrate with a Wonder Woman costume this year?? Yeah it might not be the one she uses in the movie, but it does serve as an homage to the Lynda Carter Wonder Woman TV series from back in the day. Fortunately Wonder Woman has been around for a while so if this isn’t to your taste, it’s just a quick google to find more options for your WW costume needs.
If we’re giving Gotham and Themyscira their moments, I guess it’s only fair that Krypton does too. So check out this Supergirl costume if you’re more of a Super fan than a Bat or Wonder one.
Our final option comes from the land of Steampunk, where Victorian aesthetic meets steam technology. I’m a big fan of this aesthetic, so safe to say this is one of my favorite options on this list. Love me a good pocket watch.
