Sephora Play! Review: October Edition

Since last September, Sephora started something new with loyal clients. A box of deluxe beauty product samples has been landing on the doorstep’s of a limited number of lucky customers; the Sephora Play! Box, that is.

What’s Included

For only $10 a month, Sephora is sending these cute boxes to customers throughout Boston and Cincinnati/Columbus. This will launch nationally in early 2016, but for now only those who received an invitation to the program can purchase a subscription.

Along with the 6 sample products, the box includes a Play! Book with helpful advice on how to use everything in the box. It also includes a Play! Pass which can be presented in any local Sephora store for a one-on-one learning session with a beauty expert.

The Monthly Theme

Each box contains a monthly theme. September’s focused on best sellers of Sephora and included these items: Ole Henriksen’s Sheer Transformation, Glamglow Supercleanse Daily Cleaning Cleanser, Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon, Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer, Elizabeth and James Nirvana White Perfume and Sephora Rouge Lip Stain in Peony.

Take a look at the October Play! Box, which is all about skin care products. The box includes Asian beauty brands, masks and moisturizers, and formula products for radiant skin. Clearly Sephora made their selection carefully to give samples of their best skin products.

The Contents

SPONGE AND CLEANSER

This is a great combo to remove sweat, oil and any remnants of nighttime treatment. In the store the cleanser is $28 and the sponge is $15.

Pearl Mask

This easy to use sheet mask is formulated with white pearl for a more luminous complexion. It’s great for saturating your face with a dose of hydration but application can be tricky. For best results, press the sheet against the middle of your face and then use your fingers to smooth it out towards the edges. It is best to let the mask cool off in the fridge for an hour prior to using it. The mask is $6 at the store.

Dr. Jart +

This rich, ceramic-enhanced, UV protective tinted cream promotes softer feeling skin and perfects tone, while leaving a sheer finish. To get a natural no makeup look, let this product sink into your skin. It creates a healthy-looking glow, perfect for dry and sensitive skin. This product is $48 at Sephora.

Fresh Black Tea Infusion Treatment Toner

This silky treatment toner refines the appearance of pores while moisturizing and protecting from pollutants. It’s hydrating essence works to boost the performance of other skincare products in your routine. Apply it after you finish cleansing your face and lightly press in with your fingertips. This product runs for $48 at the store.

BELIF cream

This lightweight gel-cream helps avoid and prevent skin dryness. It sinks in for hours of smooth skin. This moisturizer controls thirsty skin with a “hydrating herb,” a very soothing ingredient. To apply, pat it onto your face with your fingertips after cleaning your face or stepping out of the shower. This way the skin doesn’t have time to get dry and tight. It can also be applied as a mask, especially in the winter when your skin tends to be drier. The cream is $38 at the store.

Atelier cologne

The aromas of this cologne are made with genuine citrus scents, classic ingredients and high concentrations of essential oils. A product made for both men men and women, it sells for $125 at Sephora.

Play! Book and Play! Pass

The included Play! Book provides rules to radiant skin and tips to perfect your skincare routine. I also can’t wait to use my Play! pass to receive expert advice in a Sephora store near me.

Thoughts

So far, most reviews for the box are great. My Pretty Obsessions blog raves:

“I am really happy with my Play! box and feel that Sephora has set a standard for themselves – I’m hoping that all of the upcoming boxes will be just as great or even better!”

Subcriptionista blog exclaims:

“I love how it includes most of the steps in a basic skincare routine – I’ve been wishing a box would do that for a long time!”

Even though the sizes for these products are smaller that the ones in the store, I definitely think it’s worth trying out to experiment with different (and pricier) products before making a full commitment!

What do you think? Will you be subscribing to the new Sephora Play! box?
