Semester Guides For Thriving At OSU
Are you ready to kill this semester? Ready to make it the best one yet? Keep reading for tips on how to make the most of your time at OSU!
1. Take advantage of your resources
Ohio State has something for everyone (more than just something, might I add.) If you need help with anything, there is most likely something or someone that can answer your prayers. Anywhere from the Union to the libraries has so many opportunities for seeking help, whether it be to find a tutor or if you just need an idea for a night out with your friends. Be sure that you take advantage of these resources that also happen to be included in your hefty tuition rates!
2. Go to office hours
College is harder than high school, so it’s okay to struggle. Go meet your professors and ask for help; they are there for a reason. In fact, not a lot of kinds take full advantage of their professors, causing office hours to usually be wide open. Bottom line, professors will have time for you, so take them up on the opportunity.
3. Make the most of your meal plan
Don’t force yourself to eat at Morrill Traditions every day for the sake of convenience. Try new places around campus because most places accept meal swipe exchanges! From Oxley’s to the RPAC, each place has some new cuisine to offer, so you won’t get bored with your meals.
4. Keep your door open and talk to people on your floor
Befriend your floor! This is the easiest way to make friends. Who knows? Maybe your soul sister is your next door neighbor!
5. Keep yourself organized
A college student’s life is a busy one, so make sure that you have your stuff together. Keep a planner or a running list of assignments to make sure that they don’t catch up to you after a night of Netflix binging. Also, put club meetings and events in your phone calendar so you don’t forget about all the awesome opportunities you are a part of!
6. Don’t spread yourself too thin
Although there are thousands of opportunities at and around Ohio State, don’t sign up for everything. Pick the things you love the most, or that you can gain the most from, and stay dedicated to them. This will help you in the long run by diminishing stress, allowing for free time, and guaranteeing your attentive involvement.
7. Check your email
This one’s pretty easy. Everything is communicated through email, so you better be checking it if you don’t want to miss out!
8. Get out of your dorm
There are so many cool places to study and hang out around OSU, so don’t stay cooped up in your dorm. Try studying at the libraries or in a study pod in the basement of the Union! The RPAC steps and the Browning Amphitheater are great places to hang out with friends!
9. Figure out the bus schedule
Especially when it starts to get colder out, the CABS and COTA buses will be your best friends. It can be confusing at first, but it’s worth the extra work to figure out the schedules.
10. Explore outside of campus
Yes, the OSU campus has everything. However, there’s still a lot to see! Call an Uber and go explore outside of campus! Head over to German Village or the Arena District for a night out. Try North Market for exposure to new foods and cultures. With so many towns and districts in the area, there’s endless possibilities around Columbus.
