10 Self Care Tips That You Need To Know About

Self care is the most important area in life that always needs tending to. Here are 10 tips that will help you become a better you!

I came across a post on Tumblr called, “10 Steps To Self Care.” I have to say, I agree with all of them. Self care is hard to keep up with but it’s worth it and everybody deserves to put themselves first.

1. If It Feels Wrong, Don’t Do It

Intuition is more than just a brand name for a razor. It’s your ability to understand something immediately based on your feelings. If you feel a decision you’re about to make, whether it’s the littlest thing like picking out a new color for your bedroom, or the biggest one like getting back with your ex, if it doesn’t feel right, then it’s wrong.

2. Say “Exactly” What You Mean

People are so afraid to say what they feel because of what the outcome might be. Stop worrying about how others feel about you! No need to mince words. It’s a freeing feeling when you say what you mean and stick to your guns. In the words of NeNe Leakes:

3. Don’t Be A People Pleaser

Don’t do or say things to get people to like you. Real friends want to be friends with the real you. Don’t turn into someone’s “yes man” because deep down pleasing other people takes away from what you really want or how you really feel.

4. Trust Your Instincts

Because nobody on this Earth knows what you genuinely want and truly need than you, so why not trust your instincts? They’re your instincts for a reason. You can run, but you can’t hide from what you truly want.

5. Never Speak Badly About Yourself

If you heard your best friend putting themselves down, wouldn’t you be appalled, grab them by the shoulders, and convince them how wrong they were to speak so badly about themselves? Wouldn’t you say everything in your power to change their mind and make them see themselves the way you see them? So why is it ok for you to speak badly about yourself?

6. Never Give Up On Your Dreams

Whether you want to be an award-winning screenwriter or a pediatrician, never giving up on your dreams is easier said than done. But it can be done. All it takes is patience, hard work, and faith in yourself. This sounds cliche but it’s true.

7. Don’t Be Afraid To Say “No”

Remember when we were like two years old and the only word we said was no? It’s time to bring that two year old back. I don’t know where our courage to speak out on things we didn’t like went away but it’s time we start saying no to the things that do not make us happy.

8. Don’t Be Afraid To Say “Yes”

Speak up! Don’t be afraid! That guy who you like that just asked you out, say yes! Your friends invited you out? Say yes! I’m guilty of rejecting invitations because of anxiety but after a while I would say yes and realize that it wasn’t as bad as I made it out to be.

9. Resist The Need To Always Have Control

Life isn’t a Grand Theft Auto game. You can’t always be in control. Sure it gives you a peace of mind but it is such a burden to be filled with with the weight of responsibility all day, every day.

10. Stay Away From Drama And Negativity – As Much As Possible

While drama is entertaining to hear about, it brings nothing but negativity your way. Speaking of negativity, It’s hard to be an optimist, but being a pessimist is the greatest disservice you could do to yourself. Being negative robs us of joy and keeps us from living a happy, fulfilling life.
