Sometimes we get so caught up in the chaos of day to day life, we forget to take care of ourselves. But in order to succeed in other areas of life, we must first choose self-love and acceptance. Here are nine self-care tips to practice regularly.
Setting aside time every day to be alone is so important to your mental health. It’s okay to be alone, it’s healthy! You shouldn’t have to rely on other people to define your happiness, sometimes your own company is the best company. It can be scary at first if you always surround yourself with people to avoid being alone. But after a while, it will start to feel natural and you will get to know yourself more and more.
Reading can be so therapeutic and good for the soul. Grab a good book you’ve been meaning to check out and spend an evening laying in bed reading. Light some candles, get a healthy snack and transport your mind to a different dimension. Reading is one of my favorite ways to lose myself and disappear for a while. Right now I’m reading You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero. I highly recommend this book if you are looking to change or improve your life.
For me, cleaning is so stress-relieving and great for when I’m feeling overwhelmed by life. Take an hour out of your day to declutter, vacuum, make your bed, fold clothes, whatever you need to do. You will feel so much better after you do so, and you’ll have a beautiful, clean room to hang out in. Your surroundings have a huge impact on your mental state.
Spending time in nature is so good for the soul. Go on a hike with friends, go on a walk, or just drive to the beach and watch the sunset by yourself. This is such a good way to get away from technology and really connect with yourself and the world around you.
This is such a good way to get your thoughts out of your head and onto paper. You can write about your day, your week, your mood, your relationships, anything you need to get out. Journaling is a perfect way to see your thoughts and ideas in a different light and even come to realizations about them.
Putting on some good, relaxing music can be so beneficial to winding down after a long day. Open some windows, lay on your bed, close your eyes and just soak in the lyrics. If you are feeling more upbeat music, have a full-on dance party in your room. No one will know!
Self-care is all about treating yourself. So why not indulge in a relaxing bubble bath for one? Not only will your skin and mind feel rejuvenated, but it will help you let go of the stresses and worries of the day. Let yourself unwind every once in a while! You deserve it.
Surrounding yourself with positive people that you can be your true self around is so important! A lot of people stick around people who make them miserable, just because they’re afraid of change or hurting their feelings. If they don’t make you feel 100 percent about yourself, go get yourself some new besties!
Adding yoga into your regular self-care routine is so important for both your physical and mental health. Yoga has helped me be more centered and just feel overall more at peace with my life. The best part is, you don’t even have to go to a yoga class. You can practice yoga from the comfort of your home. Listen to meditative music and create a positive environment to practice in.
