Secret spots in Queens are few and Hard to find. Because Queens people love to get out and explore and shop and do everything, it’s truly hard to find a spot all to yourself. Well I actually know a few places that are quiet enough and nice to visit. Here they are, 10 secret spots in Queens totally worth checking out!
All the way at the bottom of Old Howard Beach is a small park where not a lot of people go. It’s actually tricky to get to and it’s not a huge public commodity. If you’re heading South on Cross Bay Blvd, you have to cross over to 96th Street via 157th Ave ONLY. Turn right on 96th and take it all the way to the end. That’s where the treasure is. If you get to the end of the park by the water it’s a beautiful view…
The Regal Cinema in Atlas Park is a hidden treasure. It’s an upscale scale theater compared to most in Queens and if you go on a week day it’s pretty quiet. There’re so many theaters in Queens that this one gets missed. It’s hidden in a small shopping center in Glendale. I remember when I found it, I was passing through there and looking for something else (I can’t remember what) and I was like wdf. There’s a theater over here? So yeah. Totally worth checking out. Don’t be surprised about their arranged seats selections either.
Over in Maspeth there’s a bridge that will make you feel like you’re in a zombie movie. It’s probably best that you do not travel alone on this adventure. It’s on Grand St. You take Grand Ave. through some factory backroad looking area and you’ll eventually come to a small bridge that crosses over Newtown Creek. Definitely do at your own risk. ☠️🤐 If you like being creeped out this is a lonely place to go.
Another gem of Queens that only a few people know about is the picnicking area around Meadow Lake in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. It’s best to go casually and not on any particular celebratory event because then it’ll be packed out. It’s tricky to get here but a few times around the park or the Grand Central Parkway and Van Wyck Expressway, and you’ll find this secret spot.
This is actually a really nice walk or bike path right in the middle of Queen’s. If you like nature and are looking for a green spot to be one with it, you might try following Highland boulevard starting from the Jamaica Avenue side. You can work your way up and then down Vermont Place. Highland Park is also here with trails through it as well. This spot feels very secretive to the rest of the borough and is quite chirpy.
Not a lot of people know about this spot in Queens, down by the Rockaway’s. But it’s a nice and quiet little island and a great spot to fish or just watch the scenery. If you’re looking for a place in Queens where the city ends this is definitely it. This spot is totally worth checking out so if you get the urge to enjoy nature you can head here! This is one of the best spots in Queens!
Not so much of a secret if you’re from Queens. But if you’re visiting this is a treasure. On Center Boulevard between 50th and 48th Streets is a nice pier area where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city and even sit on some rocks by the Hudson. A romantic spot indeed if you go with someone you care about.
This place is not even hidden but is just so cool that I had to mention it here. I love this pet store. It’s a large scale pet store that has cute and exotic animals and tons of marine life. You will find all different types of fish here if you’re into that. They’ve been here for years and I’m sure there’re still people who have never been here, or even knew it existed. If you’re into fish this spot is totally worth checking out.
On the Upper East side of the island is Fort Totten Park, another hidden gem of Queens. Bayside Queens to be more specific, and it’s a really quiet and recreational place. It’s a secret because not a lot of people visit here. It’s not very trendy or touristy. This place is almost like a gated community. Be prepared to have I.D. when you visit! This is one of our favorite spots in Queens!
Maybe you’re aware, maybe you’re not, but theres a little amusement area in Flushing Meadows Park! It’s adorably local and complete with a Merry Go Round, rides, fountain, and a petting zoo. They’ve recently renovated it so it’s brand spanking new definitely worth checking out. Especially if you have children who’d enjoy it!
