5 Scents For Your Dorm That Will Put You At Ease

The scent of your dorm can make all the difference. It should be considered a sanctuary where you come home after a long day. Here are some scents for your dorm that will make it always feel like home and put you at ease. This will probably go without saying, but candles will most likely not be allowed in dorm rooms so please seek alternatives that are in accordance with your school’s dorm rules. 

1. Lavender 

Just by looking at the color lavender, the light purple can instantly put one at ease. Commonly used for aromatherapy, you might feel like you are in a spa as soon as the scent of lavender hits you when entering your dorm. It is a light floral scent that contains many benefits that promote relaxation along with other health-related properties. If you find yourself having trouble falling asleep or relaxing in general, having a lavender scent in your dorm could help. A study was done where college-aged women with insomnia were exposed to lavender scents while falling asleep. The results of which found that there was an overall beneficial effect from being exposed to the scent as it can help reduce anxiety. This could be incredibly useful around finals week. While the scent of peppermint can be associated with the holidays, it can be a great scent for your dorm regardless of what season it is. 4. Cinnamon sticks and orange peels

If you have the means to do so and are feeling creative, check out this combination of ingredients that make a great scent for your dorm. It is also really simple, straightforward to follow and does not take that long to put together! Gather cinnamon sticks and orange peels and put them in a pot with water and turn the heat on high. Once you see steam coming from the pot, lower the heat to a simmer and add water frequently if needed. This will give your entire dorm a strong, pleasant smell that will last for a long time. Ideally, you would be able to prepare this over a stove. If you do not have access to one, you might have to be a bit more creative. You can probably recreate this scent using a microwave and all the ingredients in a bowl. Not only does potpourri work as a pleasant scent for your dorm, but it is also incredibly visually appealing and can also double as classy dorm decor. Potpourri comes in a variety of different scents that are perfect for any occasion or time of the year. One of the great things about potpourri is its versatility.  You can make different recipes throughout the year so your dorm can always smell amazing. You can buy different scents at any craft store and it will definitely last for a while. If you are feeling more creative, you can assemble your own potpourri using your favorite flower petals, spices, and oils. If you have flowers that are dying, using the petals for your potpourri is a great way to give your flowers a new life. In the fall, adding a few fallen leaves makes a great addition to your autumnal potpourri if you are feeling festive. You can prepare it at home by baking everything together using your oven at home, so it will be ready to take with you to your dorm. You can keep your potpourri in a small bowl on your desk or somewhere else in your dorm so the scent can cover the whole room. If you do decide to keep some on your desk, it will be best to keep a small amount in a bowl since the scent can be overbearing sometimes.
