8 Room Decor Items Straight Outta The 2000s

Everything from the 2000s has come back in style from clothing trends to room decor pieces. If you want to live in a room straight out of the 2000s, buckle up buttercup!

1. Hot Pink Lips Neon Sign

The 2000s bedroom was focused on a few things: a bright and fun color scheme, unique touches, and a maximalist approach to decorating. Room decor from the 2000s are some of my absolute favorites and a big thing that has come back is the neon sign. This hot pink lips neon sign is reminiscent of The Bratz and just that 2000s teen girl attitude. It adds so much flare to the space and the pink neon color of the light completely transforms the vibe of the room. This neon sign is also available in blue and red if pink is not apart of the look you are going for and it retails for just $17.99 on Amazon.

2. Beaded Bedroom Door Curtain

This next 2000s room decor item brings back such vivid memories of my childhood friends’ bedrooms and I always wanted one of these on my door so badly. The beaded bedroom door curtain was so popular when I was growing up in the early 2000s specifically and just made us feel so cool having to push them apart to walk into a room. They were so loud as they clacked together afterward, but we savored the sound. I was shocked that they still sell these and Amazon has so many styles and colors to choose from, including this purple beaded option which retails for $17.99 for a pack of two curtains, meaning you could put one in your bedroom door and closet door if you wanted! If you want to feel like you are literally stepping back into the early 2000s, then definitely get yourself one of these.

3. Butterfly Wall Feature

This next one was inspired by Serena Van Der Woodsen’s black butterfly wall decor in the hit show Gossip Girl. Serena opted for black butterflies, which are also available, but I thought these colorful, rainbow butterflies screamed the early 2000s. The classic, bright color scheme is present and butterflies were so trendy, even Zoey’s bedroom in Zoey 101 had colorful butterflies on her wall! You can totally customize the layout of the butterflies on your wall and whether you opt for a single wall with all the butterflies or choose to spread them out across your entire bedroom, these butterflies are sure to add a fun touch and tie all of your colorful room decor items together.

4. Fun Landline Telephone

Landline telephones were in every single main character’s bedroom in 2000s television shows and movies, from Regina George in Mean Girls to Miranda in Lizzie McGuire, everyone had one! Obviously, this was mostly due to the fact that not everyone has their own cell phone, and if they did, it was not used nearly as much as we use ours today. There was your usual white landline, but there were also so many fun designs like the red lips pictured below and even a hamburger phone as seen in the film Juno.  This particular landline is sold on Amazon for only $18.99, but there are so many other quirky designs you can also choose, to include a hamburger, pink high heel, and various rotary phones in cool colors. These landline telephones make such cute room decor pieces and you can always hook it up and talk to your friends how we all used to prior to cell phones!

5. Posters of Favorite Bands & Celebrities

Posters have been an essential piece of room decor for decades, but we really popped off in the 2000s thanks to magazines like Tiger Beat and J-14. These magazines always had posters of our favorite actors and bands, which was basically the entire reason we bought the magazines besides the occasional quiz. I vividly remember ripping out posters of The Jonas Brothers, Jesse McCartney, and Zac Efron and putting them up on my wall like they were some artistic masterpieces. One artist that was super popular but I never found in those magazines was the queen Avril Lavigne. There are so many posters available online now, including this one if you want to add a bit of punk flair to your room. This one is super affordable as it is being sold for just $11 on Amazon! Posters instantly personalize your room and give off that brooding, 2000s teen energy that honestly was a necessity.

6. Canopy Bed

I always dreamed of having a canopy on my bed like Summer Roberts from The O.C. It just looks so feminine and whimsical! There are so many options in regards to color, size, and style for these now, which is so tempting. These were such essentials for the girly girl in the 2000s and honestly, I can see why they are making a comeback. This one is such a gorgeous lavender shade and even has little butterflies cascading down it, which would look so pretty with the rainbow butterfly wall decor! This one has a round hoop at the top that allows it to flow out nicely onto most of the bed and looks large enough to even fit over a queen-sized bed. Live out all of your 2000s dreams, literally, with this lace bed canopy for $29.99!

Next, we have floor pillows, colorful ones of course. Bright colors and fun shapes are key to creating that 2000s bedroom makeover and this pink and yellow flower is such a great addition. Floor pillows are great because they create more seating options in your room for when friends come over or you just want someplace to chill, listen to music, and flip through those Tiger Beat magazines. 8. Inflatable Furniture

Last but certainly not least, is an important furniture style of the 2000s, inflatable furniture. Everyone had these chairs when I was a kid, my sister and I even had inflatable furniture for our Barbie dolls! These are super affordable, easy to set up and move around, plus they look super cute. This turquoise inflatable chair is seriously only $13.48, so you can live your best 2000s life for less than what an Urban Outfitters graphic t-shirt costs! The only downfall to these chairs was that your legs would stick to them, but just throw a blanket over it and you are good to go.
