Romantic Movies To Watch That Don’t Make You Cry

Romantic movies are so much more than the tearjerkers that make you ugly-cry! We also love great feel-good movies too that have a bit of romance, adventure, and tons of laughter. That’s what so great about the romance genre. It has such a wide range. You can lean towards emotionally dramatic films or  comedy. Here’s our list of great romance films that won’t leave you in tears of sadness once the end credits roll.

The Princess Bride

If you like fairytales and adventure then you should watch The Princess Bride! It is a tale about a beautiful young woman named Buttercup and her one true love Westley. Westley must find her after a long separation and save her from the evil Prince Humperdinck. The Princess Bride is an intelligent mix of swashbuckling, romance, and comedy that takes an old damsel-in-distress story and makes it fresh. The only tears you’ll be crying are tears of laughter as you watch the Sicilian and Westley battle of wits scene.

The Wedding Date

With the wedding of her younger sister approaching, Kate Ellis rents a boyfriend-for-hire to attend her sister’s wedding where the best man happens to be her ex-fiancé. Family secrets are revealed during the wedding weekend which forces Kate to confront her past so she can move forward. One of the funniest romantic movies with an all-star cast that you’ll want to see again and again just to hear dreamy actor Dermont Mulroney say “I’d rather fight with you than make love with anyone else.” *Swoon*

Sixteen Candles

Samantha Baker is turning 16, a huge milestone in any adolescent life. With her sister’s upcoming wedding everyone in her family forgets her birthday. What makes it even harder is that Samantha’s only wish for her birthday is for the older, popular jock, Jake Ryan, to notice her. While pinning for Jake, Samantha is constantly brushing off the only boy who seems to notice her in school, nerdy Ted. This coming-of-age story was written and directed by John Hughes is one of the most popular romantic movies from the Brat Pack, a group of young actors who frequently appeared together in teen films in the ’80s. You won’t cry but you will feel all the feels of unrequited love and take a trip down memory lane to all the drama that made up high school.

The Holiday

The only person who should be crying during this film should be Jude Law and not you. Dumped and depressed Iris agrees to swamp homes with Amanda who is equally unlucky in love and needs a much-needed break. Soon enough both ladies bump into a few local lads and finds love most unexpectedly. Kick back with a bowl of popcorn and watch as these characters navigate love and life in one of the best romantic movies with strong female leads.

27 Dresses

These movies is where of the phrase, “Always a bridesmaid and never a bride” must have been coined. That’s where we find our Jane who has been a bridesmaid 27 times but has never walked down the aisle in white herself. It’s only when her younger sister is engaged to marry the man she loves that Jane begins to rethink her lifestyle as being the go-to-bridesmaid who puts everyone above herself.

Crazy, Stupid, Love

Cal Weaver is living the American dream. He has a good job, a beautiful home, great children, and a beautiful wife. Everything goes south when he learns that his wife had an affair. Over 40 and single, Cal tries to re-enter the world of dating but fails miserably until ladies man Jacob Palmer enters his life and decides to teach Cal everything he needs to know. Any movie with Steve Carell is guaranteed to make you laugh. The perfect film to watch on a Friday night in with your buddies Ben & Jerry.

She decides to make an appointment with a sperm bank and on the same day of her procedure meets a man she can potentially spend the rest of her life with. Watch as Zoe and Stan try to get to know each other throughout Zoe’s pregnancy and determine if they can make it worth.

Hitch

Dating coach Alex ‘Hitch’ Hitchens mentors Albert who hopes to win the heart of the beautiful Allegra Cole. While Alex makes progress, Hitch faces his own romantic setbacks when proven techniques fail to work on Sara Melas, a tabloid reported who is digging for dirt on Allegra’s love life. If you love Will Smith and Cinderella-ish tales of turning a dud into a stud, you’ll enjoy this film!

13 Going On 30

A girl who’s sick of social structures of junior high school is transformed into a grownup overnight. In this feel-good fairy tale, teenager Jenna wants a boyfriend and her wish is granted on her 13th birthday that turns her into a thirty, flirty & thriving adult woman. Grown-up Jenna seems to have made all her dreams come true but at the cost of her childhood best friend, Mattie! Is having the dream job and model boyfriend all that makes one successful? To some maybe, but to grownup Jenna she realizes the grass is not always greener on the other side… it’s greener where you water it!

This is a sweet and light film that touches on some harsh realities of the power of our choices and their effects on our lives well after we’ve made them. Watch for the lessons but stay for the awesome dance number featuring the iconic dance choreography of Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

There’s a time and place for a good cry! Not all romantic movies you watch should leave you in a puddle of your tears once the end credits roll. Give me love but give me laughter and adventure too! Are there any feel-good romantic movies missing from our list that you are a fan of? Tells us below in the comment section!
