10 Romantic Comedies To Get You Through Summer Quarantine
We all need a good laugh once in a while – and, by once in a while, I mean everyday. Romantic comedies give us laughter, tears, romance (of course), probably some drama, and the entertainment we need to get through summer quarantine. While we all may be chillin in quarantine for a while it seems, we need some good movies to watch to get us through and keep us entertained. Here’s 10 romantic comedies to watch during your summer quarantine!
1. 50 First Dates
A lot of us probably grew up watching Adam Sandler movies, which means most of us remember 50 First Dates or at least have seen it before. It doesn’t matter if it’s from the early 2000’s, 50 First Dates is one of the romantic comedies that truly makes us laugh (probably because it has comedians Adam Sandlers and Rob Schneider). Adam Sandler’s character, Henry truly tries to win over Lucy (Drew Barrymore) and continues to do so everyday as he realizes she doesn’t remember anything as each day passes. Drew and Adam have always been great in movies together, like The Wedding Singer, and 50 First Dates is just another rom-com classic that is totally worth watching during our summer quarantine.
2. 13 Going On 30
Thirty, flirty, and thriving. Obviously we had to include 13 Going On 30 in the summer quarantine queue of romantic comedies. If you remember Jenna Rink (Jennifer Garner) in 13 Going on 30, she has a wish as 13 year old to become an adult as soon as she can. When she turns 30 basically overnight, she has to deal with everyday adulthood and realize what it’s like to have a job, date, live in the city and find love. Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo star in this movie and give us all the romance, sweet moment and tears we need to fill our rom-com expectations. This movie was great years ago and makes an even better movie now to watch during quarantine.
3. The Switch
If you’ve watched Jason Bateman in Ozark, you need to watch him in his romantic comedy days if you haven’t. Alongside Kassie (Jennifer Aniston), Jason Bateman stars as Wally Mars, who is best friends with Kassie. When Kassie decides she wants to have a baby using a sperm donor, Wally isn’t her first choice for to be the father. But, when he switches his sperm with the donor’s, he finds out later that Kassie’s son is actually his. When he notices similarities between him and Sebastian, he knows that the donor she had in mind to be the father is definitely not Sebastian’s dad. This movie is more on the dramatic, romantic side of movies. But, nonetheless worth watching if you didn’t watch it years ago when it came out.
4. Just Friends
How can we not love this movie? Chris Brander, (Ryan Reynolds) is the star of Just Friends. Growing up, Chris was not known as the heartthrob he is years later in the movie Just Friends. He is in love with Jamie (Amy Smart) but gets turned down when she just wants to be friends. When he returns home for the holidays years later, he sees Jamie again and tries to win her heart. This movie brings out a lot of laughs, romance, and craziness and hysterical moments from Samantha Jones (Anna Faris). It’s not just a movie for the holidays, it’s perfect to watch whenever.
5. He’s Just Not That Into You
Let’s start by saying the cast of He’s Just Not That Into You is perfect – Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Connolly, Justin Long, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Connelly, Ben Affleck, Drew Barrymore, Bradley Cooper, Scarlett Johansson, and more. It’s got a lot of great actors in it, and it’s here to tell you stories and tips on how to date. This movie brings us relatable scenarios and characters as well as some happy endings. This is a classic romantic comedy, that gives us a movie packed with stories from all different individuals whose lives somehow intertwine.
6. Valentine’s Day
Another quality rom-com that is filled with the most perfect actors for this movie – Ashton Kutcher, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba, Bradley Cooper, and more. Even, Taylor Swift! This romantic comedy is based around Valentine’s Day, and gives us all the romance and comedy we need to get through summer quarantine.
7. How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days
A classic, to be honest. How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days stars Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. Kate is Andie, a writer who has has a piece to write on how to get a guy to leave you within 10 days. Matthew is Ben, who has a bet on how to make a woman to fall in love with him in 10 days. When they find out they are both playing each other, they realize they really did like each other all along. This movie came out longer than 10 years ago, but is one of the best romantic comedies worth watching over and over again.
8. Failure To Launch
Another Matthew McConaughey romantic comedy, because of course. Failure To Launch came out in 2006, and stars Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker as its main characters. When Tripp (McConaughey) meets Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker) she realizes he is still living at home at 35 years old. His parents then work with Paula in order to finally get their son Tripp to move out of the house. This should be considered another classic romantic comedy and is perfect for summer quarantine.
9. Fever Pitch
You may love The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, but you’ll love him even more in Fever Pitch. 2005 was the year that starred Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore in this romantic comedy based literally around sports. When Ben (Fallon) and Lindsey (Barrymore) begin dating, she comes to the realization that Ben is totally obsessed with the Boston Red Sox and that it even becomes a part of their relationship, and pretty much takes it over. Fever Pitch is a different kind of rom com, with the heavy focus on baseball too, and it is another classic that should be watched in quarantine.
10. New Year’s Eve
If you are a fan of romantic comedies and have never seen New Year’s Eve, take your time during summer quarantine to watch it. Another romantic comedy that has a great cast, takes place in New York City, happens during the holiday seasons, and has stories connected throughout the movie?
