10 Romantic At Home Date Ideas To Keep The Sparks Alive

It is the year 2020 and everyone is quarantined inside for the foreseeable future. So, how do you keep the sparks alive and avoid that dreaded breakup? Here is a list of 10 fun at home date ideas to get you through quarantine!

1. Cook A Meal Together

Everyone has to eat, right? So, why not cook a meal together? As far as at home date ideas go, this one is an easy option. Cooking with your significant other is a great way to bond and to learn more about one another. There are lot of ways to change up your cooking experience. For instance, making a bet or a game where the winner gets to choose the meal can be a fun way to add some competition to the kitchen. Cooking can be a relaxing activity and a fun way to learn new things. For instance, maybe your conversation with your partner will reveal new things about them. Talking while preparing a meal can lead to some of the most natural feeling conversations a person can have.

2. Game Night

How about a little bit of friendly competition? Adding a competitive edge to your at home date ideas can really expand your horizons. For instance, you can take something as innocuous as Mario Kart or monopoly and turn it into a drinking game. You can also add the stripping element of strip-poker to just about any game for some added fun! Having a game night is just a really great way to be competitive with one another, but also keep things light and fun.

3. Art Projects

Much like cooking a meal together, working on art projects with your partner can be great for bonding. It can be something more practical (like decorating or painting a room), or you can both focus on actually creating paintings. The feeling of collaboration and accomplishment that you can achieve through creating something together is incredible. If you want to add alcohol to the equation, you can look to your local craft brewery for inspiration and do a “Paints & Pints” night. Grab some of your favorite beer or wine and a couple of canvases. You can each paint something different, or you can both paint the same thing. Afterwards, you can both compare your paintings and how you interpreted the subject matter.

4. Tasting Flight Night

By now, it should be clear that a lot of the at home date ideas on this list are going to involve alcohol. It just makes at home dates way more fun! For a tasting flight night, you’ll need to buy some different bottles of either beer, wine, or liquor and pour small tasters of each. You and your partner can then taste through the lineup and pick your favorites. Doing tasting flights is not only a fun way to catch a buzz, but also a great way to find out more about your partner’s tastes. This idea also works for those of you who abstain from alcohol, as it can easily be replaced with sample sized servings of ice cream, pastries, or other non-alcoholic options.

5. Movie Marathon

So, this at home date idea should be pretty easy to pull off. You and your partner each make a list of  your favorite movies from different periods of your lives. Having a movie marathon is a fun way to get a sense of what kind of person your partner was during different times of their life. For instance, maybe your partner was obsessed with Disney as a kid or maybe they are obsessed with horror. Either way, pop some popcorn and find a comfortable spot to sit in. Maybe whoever wins during game night gets to pick the movies. There are plenty of different ways to get creative with your movie night!

6. Cocktail Party For Two

Okay all of you amateur bartenders, here is your pick out of all of the at home date ideas. Make a mock menu of a few different cocktails that you can make for your partner. You can even theme the cocktails around whatever you and your partner are doing that night. For instance, if you are both cooking Italian food, you might make your partner a Negroni or an Aperol spritz. You can also theme your cocktail menu around whatever movie you might be watching. For instance, if you are both watching a zombie movie, you can make a corpse reviver cocktail. Get creative with it!

7. Spa Night

Everyone needs to relax right? Since everyone is self-quarantining right now, going to a spa is difficult to impossible right now. So, why not have a spa night at home? This is one of the more relaxing at home date ideas on this list and can be combined with a few of the other options as well. Having a spa night can be as simple as just giving each other massages, or you can go the extra mile and get some therapeutic oils. The world is a stressful place and you both deserve a relaxing night in!

8. Collaborative Playlist

Of all of the at home date ideas on this list, making a collaborative playlist works less as a standalone activity and more as something to add to one of these other ideas. For instance, you can both add songs you want to hear to a playlist while you are working on an art project or during your spa night. Sharing your music taste is a really interesting way to help your partner get to know you a little better. Maybe one of the additions might be really surprising. You can also pick a theme for the playlist if you want to be more specific (i.e. songs you both enjoyed in high school or that you find romantic).

9. Plan A Trip

At some point in the near future, you are not going to have to self-quarantine. Why not plan ahead for a brighter future? Maybe you and your partner have always wanted to go to Disneyland or to New York City. Why not make it happen? Start planning your future trip now to get a better idea of the costs and logistics of making it all happen. Pick a romantic spot to visit and start dreaming!

10. The Basic

The term “Netflix and chill” has become such a meme at this point that it really isn’t something that even needs to be explained. Essentially, this is the most basic of all of the at home date ideas and requires little to no effort from either you or your partner. Just put something fun on the tv and let the night run its course!
