11 Restaurants To Take Your Parents To During Family Weekend At FSU
Family weekend, whether you want to admit it or not, may be one of the best weekends of the fall semester. Whether it’s your senior year or your freshman year, everyone gets homesick and misses their family. When they get here, you want to appear happy and like you haven’t been contemplating dropping out and moving back home because you miss your Mom, Dad, and dog. The best way to do this is to have a game plan for when Mom and Dad get here, and let’s be honest, most plans revolve around food. Here are 11 restaurants that you have to take your parents to during family weekend at FSU. So wear some stretchy pants because you’re about to feel full!
1. Momo’s Pizza
Who doesn’t love pizza? Momo’s is kind of a legend here in town. If you haven’t had it, do you even live in Tally? Show your parents how you have gotten comfortable in your new home away from home by taking them to this amazing pizza place with slices as big as your head, and yes, you will need a fork and knife for this slice.
2. Lucky Goat
Everyone knows that college kids live off of coffee, and Lucky Goat is arguably one of the best coffee shops here in town. That’s why this is a great place to take your parents. It’s a cool study spot and a great place to start off your busy day. Mom and Dad are bound to love it.
3. Voodoo Dog
Voodoo Dog doesn’t look like much from the outside other than a sketchy purple building, but as soon as you and your family walk in, it’ll be a blast from the past for your parents AND the best hot dog you’ve ever had. The walls are literally covered in memorabilia from the 80’s and earlier. Did I mention that their hot dogs are usually wrapped in bacon?
4. Mr. Roboto
This amazing Asian fusion restaurant has a little bit of something for everyone. You can choose from hibachi, sushi, or kitchen entrees. That makes it easy to please your entire family, even your little sister who hates everything. Plus this restaurant gives off a totally fun and playful vibe.
5. Maple Street Biscuit Company
Okay, so this restaurant isn’t necessarily a Tallahassee original, but if your family has never been there, YOU HAVE TO GO for family weekend at FSU! That’s pretty much all I have to say on that.
6. Burrito Boarder
Our society has placed burritos on a pedestal, which is all the more reason that you should take your wonderful family here. These burritos definitely rival Chipotle and are huuuuuuge, so your bottomless pit of a brother will be completely full after you and your family leave this restaurant.
7. Gordo’s
Reason number 1 to go to Gordo’s: you and your family hail from South Florida like I do, you pretty much grew up eating Cuban food, even if you aren’t Cuban. Reason number 2 to go to Gordo’s: your family doesn’t come from South Florida and you’ve never experienced Cuban food. I mean like seriously, it’s so authentic you might as well be eating in Miami. So whether you’re going for reason one or reason two this is a great restaurant to bring your family to.
8. Donut Kingdom
If your family, much like mine, is into the homemade, fresh everyday, donut thing, you have got to take them to Donut Kingdom. It’s incredible.
9. Tacospeak
In case you weren’t sure, yes I do like tacos… and burritos.. and basically any Latino food. They know what they’re doing with food, and Tacospeak is no exception. These handcrafted tacos are some of the best things I’ve tasted and the restaurant has an awesome atmosphere. So if you want to show Mom and Dad a really cool place in Tallahassee, this is the place to go during family weekend at FSU.
10. Insomnia Cookies
Oh and while you’re at Tacospeak (or at 2am in true college student style) take your family to Insomnia Cookies. Easily the best cookies in town. They are always warm and are open until 3 am, which is totally an appropriate time to get cookies. So wake up Mom and Dad and take them to Insomnia Cookies!
11. One of the dining halls on campus.
Yeah, this sounds crazy, but seriously take them here! Whether you take them to Suwannee or Fresh Food, this is the best way for Mom and Dad to see how you eat on a day to day basis. It might even help convince them to upgrade your meal plan to the VIP Dining package, because let’s be honest, no one likes to eat at the dining halls every day.
Use family weekend at FSU not only as way to let your parents know that you’re okay and taken care of, but also as a way to bond and catch up on everything either or you may have missed. Plus, you can use it as an excuse to go to that one restaurant you’ve been dying to try!
