8 Restaurants To Visit During Family Weekend At App State
Family weekend at App State is right around the corner! Are you stuck wondering where you’re going to take them for a great dinner out? Don’t worry! There are plenty of great places near campus. Keep reading for 8 great restaurants to take your parents to during family weekend at App State!
1. Macado’s
Located in the heart of King Street, Macado’s is the eclectic restaurant of your dreams. Boasting numerous sandwich combinations, wraps, quesadillas, pastas and amazing nachos, Macado’s has something for your entire family. And don’t forget to bring a sharpie to add to the wonderfully defaced table. Check out their menu, here.
2. Capone’s
Boone’s very own home to Chicago and New York Style pizza. Also located on King Street, Capone’s has a wide variety of pizzas to select from as well as delicious garlic knots and subs. If you plan on visiting Capone’s I would recommend The Godfather; it is deliciously stuffed with ricotta, mozzarella, and smoked provolone and comes with your choice of two toppings (I go for pineapple and grilled chicken). On top of all of that cheesy goodness, comes another piece of crust, and to top it all off, is Capone’s tangy marinara sauce- it is irresistible. Check out their menu, here.

3. Black Cat Burrito
If your family is a fan of Mexican flare, Black Cat Burrito is the place to go. Black Cat is home to some of the best burrito combinations in Boone and also has a wide variety of vegetarian options. Their menu can be found here.
4. Dan’l Boone Inn
For home-style Southern cooking served family style, Dan’l Boone Inn is your number one choice. The lines can get incredibly long, so I would recommend getting there early, but the wait is incredibly worth it. Their dinner menu boasts southern fried chicken, country style steak, country ham biscuits, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, fresh stewed apples, coleslaw, soup or salad, biscuits and choice of dessert- that is no exaggeration. Their menu can be found here.

5. COBO Sushi Bistro
If your family loves sushi, COBO Sushi Bistro is the best sushi in town. Their rolls are authentic, but their menu also has non-traditional menu items as well. Their menu can be found here.
6. Galileo
Galileo’s menu boasts locally raised meat and is on the West end of King Street. Their menu holds eight different burgers, wraps, quesadillas, soups and taco creations. And if you are incredibly hungry and are tiring of the same old dorm food, check out their Big Boi- a pound of meat in between two grilled cheese sandwiches.
7. McKethan Brothers BBQ
For barbeque lovers, McKethan Brothers Barbeque is the way to go. This is your typical barbeque joint, but they specialize in high quality cuts of meat, with your choice of homemade sauces and southern style sides. Along with all of that, they also have a high quality salad bar and macaroni bowls.
8. Puerto Nuevo
Lastly, a personal favorite of mine- Puerto Nuevo. Puerto Nuevo’s menu holds both authentic Mexican cuisine as well as your favorite Tex-Mex dishes. Their menu is extensive, so there is definitely a choice for everyone. And don’t forget the best part- the endless salsa bar.
