10 Reasons You Should Consider Going To Therapy
Therapy should never feel like you have given up. If anything, deciding to go to therapy should feel like a win. It’s your way of fighting your internal battle. You should feel proud of making the decision to go to therapy but sometimes that choice is a hard one to make. There are a lot of reasons why you should consider going to therapy and they are all valid.
1. You’re feeling alone.
If you ever have that intense feeling of loneliness it is not your fault. There are a lot of factors that could be playing into you feeling lonely and that is totally okay and valid. Sometimes our mental health likes to fight us and have us be alone because we think we’re a burden to others when that’s not the case. If you go see a therapist they are going to help you find ways to include others into your life. It’s also a great way to always have someone to talk to so you don’t feel as alone. Your therapist should reassure you that you’re not the only one feeling that way and you’re never alone.
2. You are going through a big change.
Changes can be scary and they are really hard to go through alone. Some people don’t handle change, as well as others, do and that’s perfectly okay. You don’t have to be okay with change because it’s a big deal and sometimes it is really scary. If you go see a therapist they are going to help you understand that change is necessary for life to move forward and that there will always be things that change but it’s the way you perceive that change that truly matters. Don’t let change scare you, instead, you can learn to embrace change and let it make your life better.
3. You’re having harmful thoughts.
Our minds are one of the things that we just cannot run away from. It’s so scary when your brain is telling you things you wish you couldn’t hear. Sometimes those thoughts are so intrusive they lead us to do things that are harmful to ourselves. Seeking help from a therapist will help you get your negative thoughts under control while also having you monitored to be sure you’re helping yourself, not hurting yourself.
4. You have a change in sleeping patterns.
This change isn’t as drastic but could still affect your mental health. If you see a change in sleeping patterns then a therapist would be a great way to fix it. If you feel as though you aren’t getting enough sleep then seeking professional help is the best way to get it fixed.
5. You need someone to talk to.
A therapist is an amazing alternative for having someone to talk to. If you’re too scared to share your feelings and thoughts with other people in your life a therapist is going to be the exact person you can openly speak to with no judgment or fears. Going to therapy is also a great way to practice or segway into speaking to someone close to you in your life. This way you’ll be able to feel comfortable sharing your feelings with someone and eventually be able to open up to the close people around you.
6. You feel your mental health declining.
It’s so important to take care of your mental health. If you are worried or feel as though you are starting to feel sadder and sadder then maybe it’s time to see a therapist. Therapy is a great way to get bottled up feelings off your chest in a safe environment. You should never feel scared or unsafe when going to therapy. It’s going to help you when you’re feeling sad and also give you new ways to start to help yourself feel better.
7. You are scared.
Sometimes we are afraid of who we are and want to desperately fix it. Therapy is a great way to teach you that life isn’t as scary as you think and you shouldn’t be scared of who you are. In therapy, you will be able to fix whatever scares you and even help you get rid of the fears entirely. If it’s a fear about the world or about yourself therapy is a great way to help that fear. You’re going to feel a lot better about what you’re scared of because therapy will help you realize it isn’t as scary as you think.
8. You need to find a way to cope.
When something bad happens in our lives we all cope with that in different ways. Sometimes people just cannot find a way to cope with a negative or changing situation. Therapy is there to help teach you how to cope while also being a great way for you to vent and cope. A therapist is there to help give you ways to let out frustrations or sadness while also listening to what bothers you and how you change things to make it better.
9. You have changing mood swings.
There are a lot of factors that go into mood swings. Sometimes there are things that can easily trigger you that will just make you switch intense emotions without even thinking. When you go to therapy, your therapist is going to help you understand that these emotions are totally normal to feel. They will help you find what triggers you and make it seem like it wasn’t so triggering after all. Mood swings are difficult to manage when you aren’t sure where they are coming from but a therapist is there to help you manage your mood swings and help to make them less frequent.
10. You feel out of control.
Sometimes we get that feeling that the world is coming down on us and everything is just out of our control. This is so scary when you aren’t sure what to do or how to fix it. Therapy will help you understand that you don’t always have to be in control. That sometimes things are out of your control and that’s okay. You can’t help feeling scared or crazy but you aren’t. Therapy is going to help you realize that sometimes you have no control and that it’s okay and it’s just a part of life.
