7 Reasons Why Your Appetite Feels Out Of Control

When your appetite begins to feel out of control you may find yourself wondering what’s going on; at times it can even feel frustrating because of how hard you might try to keep your hunger/cravings at bay. That’s why we compiled these 7 reasons why your appetite feels out of control because although everyone’s different, you deserve a general idea of what’s going on.

1. Your Body Isn’t Getting The Right Amount Of Nutrients That It Needs.

If you’re anything like me – and tend to become so immersed in your work to the point where you skip meals – then your appetite could feel out of control because of this common reason…a decrease in nutrients. The fact of the matter is our body needs certain essentials in order to stay satisfied and strong; in other words, if you only eat one bowl of cereal a day than you might not be getting enough protein; this also goes the other way around for those who are getting too much of one thing – such as carbohydrates – but not enough of everything else.

2. Your Body Isn’t Getting The Right Kind Of Nutrients That It Needs.

You may eat three meals a day – and snacks in between – but if your body’s not healthy then there’s no way that you can be fully satisfied. Another way of thinking of it is like this; if you eat burgers, Cheetos, and chocolate cake every day then it will start to take a toll on you. You may be full, but only briefly, before you find yourself right back where you started – and hungrier than ever – because of the amount of junk food you consume. The worst part about it is that foods like these will only hold you over for a couple of hours, and don’t provide you with anything that can truly sustain you.

3. You Appetite Has Increased Because Your Stress Levels Have Increased.

Many of us can experience this one – 99.9% of the time – because stress can be a killer; the only unfortunate part about this is that it takes our appetite with it. In other words, the more stressed you are, the more likely you are to reach for snacks that are filled with sugar and salt – instead of healthier ones. In doing so, your body begins to feel a whole lot better – at least before the crash that is – as you eat away at each in response to how your feeling. As a result, you may feel like you’re rewarding yourself at the moment when what you’re really doing is the exact opposite.

4. You Get Hungry More Often Because You’ve Been More Active Throughout The Day.

Did you just pick up cycling, swimming, running, or something similar? If so then your body may still be in the process of adjusting to all the new activity that it’s being forced to do. This is especially true if you are someone who used to live a very sedimentary lifestyle – instead of getting up, going outside, and being active. But even though this may cause you to feel a lot hungrier, it’s still important that you don’t go over on your calorie count – or it can cause you to gain a lot of excess weight; in turn, you may feel as though you’re meeting all of your goals, until it’s too late, and you find yourself with an additional twenty pounds.

5. You’re Adjusting To A Particular Change In Your Diet.

Have you cut back on the number of calories that you used to consume? If so, then it may pose as a shock to your body by causing it to crave the amount that it used to have. We can relate this to someone eating all of their meals at the same time each day because after a while his/her body gets used to it – until a change is made; when this has happened it can be hard to get used to at first – as he/her finds himself/herself reverting back to the same old diet. Yet, even so, this can apply to either party; those who go over their daily amount of calories or for those who are unable to meet their calorie goal.

6. There’s Some Sort Of Change In Your Hormone Levels.

Hormones play a way bigger role – in your appetite – than you might think; WebMD even gives us detail to help us understand, as it goes to say, “Leptin is a hormone, made by fat cells, that decreases your appetite. Ghrelin is a hormone that increases appetite, and also plays a role in body weight. Levels of leptin — the appetite suppressor — are lower when you’re thin and higher when you’re fat.” I find both of these types to be extremely interesting because they help us to comprehend what is taking place within our body a whole lot better.

7. There’s An Underlying Health Issue That You Might Not Know About.

None of us want to discuss health issues because let’s face it; they aren’t fun, and we wouldn’t wish them on anybody. Yet, even so, it’s still important that we take them into consideration – instead of dismissing them altogether. In turn, it’s important to keep an eye on your appetite – especially if you’re noticing certain changes that feel uncontrollable; for there are some things that you can try your best to maintain that only the help of a medical professional will be able to fix. Some examples of these are hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, along with several others.

Dealing with an unruly appetite is never a fun endeavor – but once you’ve come to the source of the problem it will make it a whole lot easier to handle. In turn, we hope that these 7 reasons why your appetite feels out of control help you with any concerns that you might have about your eating habits or diet.
