The world we live in is one filled with glitz and glamour. Nearly any and everyone has the potential to become an overnight celebrity. All it takes it one viral video and you could build your empire in no time. Being popular doesn’t necessarily require a specific set of skills or talent, you just have to trend throughout social media. For this reason, the once fabled celebrity status has been significantly downgraded. Here are 10 reasons why you shouldn’t worship celebrities.
In the era where the “Catch Me Outside” girl has a legit rap career, you really should put any energy into idolizing celebrities. I’m not saying that these are bad people by any means, but you’re wasting your energy admiring people who don’t deserve your attention. A few decades ago, the only way to become a celebrity was through sheer talent and charisma. Sure there were awful celebrities back then as well, but I can guarantee they rose to the top by having talent.
90% of the celebrities you worship probably don’t live the type of lifestyles they have on social media. Yeah, they’re doing better than you and me but don’t think that every celebrity has JAY-Z levels of wealth. It’s all an illusion to attract more followers and gain more “clout”.
Being a fan of something or someone is completely normal. You can love the movies, music, and art that someone creates but don’t blindly follow them. Once you start equating their thoughts and opinions to that of the word of god, then maybe it’s time to reconsider your “fandom”.
No matter how much you may feel like you know them, celebrities are still strangers. It doesn’t matter how long they’ve been in the public eye, you must not feel like you “know” them personally. For this reason, why would you worship somebody that doesn’t even know you exist?
In the same vein as the reason above, it’s just plain weird to worship another human being. Do you really want to be that much energy in praising somebody that you’re more than likely never going to meet? This may sound like common sense to most people reading this, but you’d be surprised at how many people view celebrities in this light.
Celebrities are at the end of the day, just like you and me. They have the same insecurities and fears despite whatever persona they may have in the media. Don’t attempt to live up the false standards that are broadcasted throughout social media.
Put that time and energy idolizing strangers into showing love to your friends & family. It people who know the favorite foods, movies, and hobbies of their favorite celebrities but don’t know the favorite restaurants of their friends.
Before you can truly love and appreciate someone, you have to do the same for yourself. Stop believing that other humans are superior and love yourself. Become your own personal celebrity.
Few things in this world are permanent. This is especially true for stardom. The hottest person here today may not be around in another year or so. Do you really wanna worship someone that you may be ashamed of in five years?
Okay, this last reason maybe kinda mean, but more often than not, celebrities usually have huge egos and are kinda douchebags as a result. You really wanna hype someone like that up in your head? I think not! Love yourself!
