If you’re in the New Jersey or Philadephia area, you might’ve heard of the Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market. It’s a big flea market held between two locations, five times a year at either Roebling Wire Works in Trenton, NJ or Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company in Croydon, PA. It’s a place of no judgment where people can share their love for creativity and punk rock. Here are 8 reasons why you should visit the Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market.
It’s a flea market so of course vendors are required, but the vendors that sign up to be a part of the Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market are unlike any others you’ll ever meet. They are more or less covered in tattoos and piercings, or not, and they are really some of the nicest people and sell the coolest stuff you will ever find. I’m talking about jewelry made of bones, custom t-shirts saying sarcastic things such as, “I wear black every day because I’m preparing for your funeral”, freakshow memorabilia, fairy statues, one of a kind coffee mugs, and so much more.
And the artwork is so unique. I’m talking pop comic art, hand-drawn movie characters, printed scrolls and many more. A great treat for those of you who are into cult classic movies, you are more likely to find items that represent your favorite. There is so much more than what I have mentioned, you’ll just have to go see for yourself!
The two locations that the Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market is enough alone to give you a unique experience. The Roebling Wire Works location is a huge, old, steel warehouse and the Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company is legit a beer factory. You really can’t get any more of a punk rock experience than that. It’s also only a five dollar admission fee and you receive a wrist band that allows you to come and go as you please for the day. Not to mention they usually have a special, the first 100 people to arrive receive TPRFM Black Swag Bag, which is a free goodie bag of random items from vendors!
The Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market prides themselves on being dog-friendly! So as you’re walking around doing some shopping, being fascinated by all the great finds, you’ll also see a ton of adorable dogs of all shapes and sizes walking around living their best lives. I’d advise you that if you want to pet these dogs, to always ask the owners permission first, out of respect. Other than that, enjoy all the adorableness they have to offer!
Food trucks are a big part of the Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market experience. If you join the Facebook event of the upcoming flea market, they will announce, leading up to it, what food trucks will be appearing that day. Almost always a different company comes to share their specialized food for visitors at the flea market. You can experience all different kinds of food such as tacos, burritos, meatballs, and sandwiches all with their different taste of flavor. There are many different ones added per event, it’s a new experience every time.
The Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market wouldn’t be the same without the special beer that they offer. If you’re 21 and over you should definitely try at least one kind of beer at the flea market. It’s not very expensive either, anywhere between five and seven dollars, and they are definitely tasty.
Besides the awesome vendors, there are so many different people from neighboring states that attend the Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market. Being in a place surrounded by people with a common interest as you, just has this big welcoming vibe, making you feel right at home.
Since the Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market only comes around five times a year, they always have a particular theme when they appear. The themes are: My Punk Rock Valentine, Spring Fling, Summer Market, Halloween, and Wreck The Halls. Each theme coordinated with the appropriate season, creating a different experience every time!
Sometimes the Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market will host an after show once the flea market ends at 7pm. It includes a live band and it is encouraged that you let loose and have a good time.
