Harry Styles has been a household name since 2010, and his fanbase only continues to grow every day. With five successful years in what some consider the world’s biggest boyband, One Direction, Styles was able to use the platform he built with his four bandmates to propel himself into a successful solo career.
Styles has repeatedly stated that he doesn’t like the term “famous.” He stays humble alongside the fame he experiences, uses his popularity to help as many people as he possibly can, and continuously encourages others to “treat people with kindness.” If you aren’t a fan of Harry Styles yet, here are 10 reasons why you should be:
On many occasions, Styles has made it very clear that he supports the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. At his concerts, he creates a sort of safe haven for them, a place where anyone in the community can feel secure and accepted, and he makes sure that every person in the audience knows. Styles has also helped fans come out to their parents during his shows by reading their signs and even calling one fan’s mother. By waving around bedazzled pride flags and dancing with them wrapped around his neck or draped over his microphone stand, Styles makes it evident that his love for his LGBTQ+ fans is something special.
Styles actively donates a portion of his earnings to charity, supporting things like cancer research, March for Our Lives, and Time’s Up. During Harry Styles: Live On Tour, his 2018 world tour, Styles raised approximately $1.2 million for 62 charities around the world. By donating a portion of ticket sales from each show as well as merchandise profits, Styles was able to help thousands. He also successfully registered hundreds of fans attending his shows to vote, made over 5,000 connections to local charities in the cities he performed in, and conserved over 6,500 gallons of water at his shows.
Harry Styles is one of the few celebrities to not follow all of the rules, and we love that about him. Styles has always been one to challenge the rules of fashion, wearing floral print Gucci suits and growing his hair past his shoulders. He would rock golden boots on stage and make red carpet appearances in designs new to the fashion world. At first, Styles’ fashion choices weren’t accepted by many, but he didn’t let that stop him. Now, Styles is considered a fashion icon. At just 25, Styles became the Met Gala’s youngest host, wearing custom Gucci with lace cutouts and painted nails, and he absolutely rocked it.
On May 6, 2016, Styles posted a photo of his beloved long hair in a braid – not on his head, but in his hand, followed by the caption, “Whoops. #Litttleprincesstrust.” Styles cut his famous curls and donated them to the Little Princess Trust, a charity operating throughout Europe that provides high-quality wigs to children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or other illnesses. His donation inspired hundreds of his fans to do the same, and because of his generosity, children around Europe can once again experience confidence.
At every show of his, Styles makes sure that his fans know they are in a safe and accepting environment. He greets them with a warm hello, tells them not to worry about who’s watching them sing or dance, and asks fans to hug one another during his set – and they listen. There is something about Styles that makes others not only feel accepted themselves, but makes them want to accept others as well.
On a variety of different occasions, Harry Styles has gone out of his way to make his fans happy and make sure that they are okay. During a few of his 2018 concerts, Styles actually stopped performing midway through his songs to check on fans in the pit who needed help. He hands them water bottles, sends security to help them, and even waits patiently for them to get the help they need before they continue to perform. Styles has also been seen helping fans who have fallen or gotten hurt in a mob and even going out of his way during a meet and greet to meet a fan who experienced an anxiety attack before she could meet him.
After taking a break from One Direction, Harry Styles was able to experiment with his own personal sound, and he definitely took a risk by releasing music with a totally different sound than what he and his bandmates were used to performing. Styles has been praised for bringing classic rock and roll back to the world of pop music and for writing heartfelt and emotional lyrics. He brings personal experience into his songwriting, showing vulnerability while telling others that they are not alone, that it’s okay to hurt sometimes, and that they will be alright.
Although his fans may not know Harry Styles personally, it is safe to say that he has always been and still remains one of the most humble celebrities beside his fame. Styles has expressed his feelings toward the word “famous,” explaining that he is just a person, the same person he was before, and that a label like “famous” makes him feel like he lacks what is most important. Styles remains the funny, family-loving, down-to-earth person he was before One Direction, and this is continuously confirmed through interactions with him that people share on social media, claiming that he is one of the kindest people they have ever met.
During his off time, Harry Styles is often spotted out with friends and family. It is evident that his family is very important to him, and he shows his love for them through the multiple tattoos he has for them. Styles also takes his mother, Anne Twist, as his date to events like the recent Fleetwood Mac concert he attended.
Perhaps the most lovable thing about Harry Styles is the way he encourages others to be themselves. At each and every one of his concerts during Harry Styles: Live On Tour, Styles gave a speech telling his fans to “be whoever you want to be in this room,” letting them know that who they are and who they want to be is completely accepted by him. He makes people who struggle to accept themselves feel safe and loved for who they are, and that’s important.
