10 Reasons Why Taking A Break From Social Media Is Good For You

Social media can sometimes be the devil in internet form. We all are incredibly guilty of scrolling aimlessly through our Instagram and Facebook feeds when we know we should either be studying for that test we have tomorrow or completing that list of tasks we need to get done. Sure, social media can be a great source of keeping us informed on all that is currently happening in our society while also letting us see how our exes are getting their karma for treating us like shit, but too much social media can be a bad thing. Here’s why taking a break from social media can actually be good for you!

1. Mental Clarity

Constantly scrolling through social media will just clutter your mind with unnecessary bullshit. Our minds need to have more times of being completely clear and focused on the things that matter most. (And less times of being filled with the latest ShadeRoom post drama.)

2. Renewed Focus

When you are not so consumed with checking how many likes your latest selfie got, you’ll find that your focus is better and that you are more focused on the things that you need to be. Less focus on your likes = more focus on your goals.

3. No Drama

Today’s society is obsessed with blasting their drama and business all over social media. Yes, it can be entertaining to read your friend’s FB post blasting her baby daddy but that gets tiring and lame quick. Not being “in the know” of people’s drama is a good thing because it means you are minding your business and don’t have time for it.

4. Better Time Management

Not being on Twitter scrolling to see whatever celebrities are currently sub-tweeting each other in some whack beef, leaves room for you to use that time productively. You’ll find that having effective time management can make life real smooth at times because you are getting shit done!

5. Self-Love / Self- Care

Social media can, a lot of times, play heavily on how we view ourselves. We want a body like Beyoncé and naturally flawless skin like Gabrielle Union while still indulging in Flaming Hot Cheetos. Taking time away from social media can help you appreciate your body, love your flaws and do things that make you feel and look your best.

6. Having Real Fun

People love posting on social media all the fun they are having but never fully get to appreciate that fun. Why? Because you can’t truly have fun while filming fun. Creating epic memories with family and friends while being FULLY PRESENT for them, will make you realize ‘fun’ at a whole new level.

7. Increased Knowledge

Reading more books instead of reading the ‘tea’ on which reality TV star couple just broke up, will help further your cerebrum’s intellect and knowledge. Putting more attention into your studies (which should be an automatic), as well, will help you feel more intelligent and empowered.

8. Flourishing Creativity

Social media can sometimes be a great place to provide you with an idea for an article to write or what you want your summer fashion style to be. However, you’ll find that the most amazing and unique creative inspo, comes from simply observing people in their everyday lives at places like the mall, coffee shop or park.

9. In-Tune with Your Surroundings

A major disconnect happens when you are more intrigued by what your celebrity crush is posting then by how beautiful the day is and how you should take advantage of it. Stopping and smelling those roses (cliché I know), taking that stroll around your neighborhood and visiting that local art museum that just opened; can make you embrace the beauty that surrounds you every day.

10. Living Your Life

Too often, people become envious and jealous of what people’s lives on social media look like without realizing that nine times out of ten, it’s a front! Truly living your life how you want to live it and creating a life that is dope to you, is the best way to live!
