10 Reasons Why Spotify Is Better Than Apple Music

A long-standing debate between music lovers is which music streaming service is better: Spotify or Apple Music? Personally, I have been a Spotify premium user for several years and I would not make the switch over to Apple Music ever. In my biased opinion, Spotify is a million times better than Apple Music. So Apple Music fans sit back, relax as I list all the reasons why you should delete Apple Music and download Spotify.

1. You can stream songs for free on Spotify.

Apple Music does not have a free streaming option like Spotify does. Although there are some adds if you just have the free version of Spotify, you can still access all the same songs and create playlists. Even if you just have the free version of Spotify, you still have basically all the same functions as premium users so it’s a pretty good deal. Spotify also gives you access to not just music, but also a large range of podcasts that you can still listen to even if you don’t have premium.

2. Spotify helps you discover new music based on what you already listen to.

Something unique about Spotify is that it compiles all the music you listen to and creates personalized playlists for you based on your music taste. Spotify will introduce you to similar artists that you may like, thus expanding what you listen to. Spotify’s system will take all the artists and songs you listen to regularly and combine them into playlists you may like e.g. Daily Mix 1, 2, 3, etc.

3. The Discover Weekly and Release Radar features are amazing.

The Discover Weekly feature uses data from the music you normally stream and makes a playlist of songs for you that you may like. It is updated every week so you can easily discover new music, kind of like the Daily Mix. Also, do you struggle with knowing when your favorite artists release new music? With Spotify’s Release Radar feature you are notified when your favorite artists that you listen to release new music. The Release Radar is also updated every Friday with music from artists you listen to and also just new music that has been released in the past week.

4. Monthly and yearly playlists are made for you based on your top songs.

One thing I love about Spotify is how at the end of each year, Spotify makes a playlist based on all your top songs of each year. It’s so neat to have a collection of all the songs you listened to over the years and still have it accessible to you even a few years later. Also, Spotify will collect data on who your top artist was during the year, how many hours you spent listening to music, 5 of your top songs of the year, and more statistics from your year overall.

5. Spotify has more opportunities to collaborate with other users.

Apple Music and Spotify both have the option to create playlists, but something unique about Spotify is that you can invite other people to add to your playlist. Creating playlists with other users allows you to connect with people over music paving the way for a more social platform than Apple Music. Spotify also allows you to follow other users or their playlists and see what they’re listening to as well.

6. Spotify shines in its ability to work seamlessly across all devices.

Spotify can work on your computer, phone, Apple Car Play, and any device that you have without any trouble at all. On all it’s interfaces, Spotify is easy to navigate and utilize. Apple Music is available on most devices, but on the computer, it can only be used through iTunes which is not the most organized application. Spotify is compatible with everything including Amazo’s Alexa, Sony, and more.

7. If you buy Spotify premium, you can also gain access to Hulu and Showtime for free.

Both services offer student discounts, but one way Spotify has a leg up on Apple Music is by granting premium subscribers access to Hulu and Showtime. It’s a pretty sweet deal as you get 3 services for the price of one. On Apple Music, you pay for only their service, but Spotify gives you access to more.

8. Spotify integrates better with third-party workout apps.

Although Spotify does not have built-in workout functions any longer, if you connect it to other applications, Spotify will curate workout playlists for you based on your preferred workout. Spotify connects better with more third-party apps so they can provide playlists that can even match how fast a person is running or walking.

9. Spotify’s streaming quality is more reliable.

Apple Music always will attempt to stream at the highest possible quality and when someone is in a zone with no access to wifi and is just using cellular data, the quality will be reduced. Spotify’s streaming quality will adjust based on how well your connection is. So instead of having the quality of your music interrupted on Apple Music, Spotify will allow you to listen to their platform without any playback interruptions even if you are in an area with poor cell service.

10. The layout of Spotify is more user friendly and you can take more control of the sound your listening to.

When you open Spotify, you immediately see all your playlists and all the content you listen to regularly. Only if you click on the Discover tab will you see suggestions after you look through your own content. On Apple Music, there are so many more tabs that get in the way of you being able to access the content that you want. Spotify shows everything on one single page where you can just scroll versus on Apple Music where you actually have to click tabs to find what you’re looking for. Also if you are into equalizing your sound, Spotify has an option in settings where you can control your own EQ. Apple Music only has EQ presets so it doesn’t offer as many choices.

Although Spotify and Apple Music are relatively similar, Spotify is the better option as you have more opportunities to collaborate, discover new music, and access all your content on every one of your devices. Spotify is so easy to use and you can make endless discoveries of new genres and artists.
