Top 10 Reasons Why Pusheen Is The Coolest Cat Online
If you’ve been on the internet at all in the past ten years, chances are you came across the wonderful gray tabby cat that is Pusheen.
Back when gifs and sticker sets were new concepts shared between friends online, Pusheen and her simple squishy design did for the 2010s what Hello Kitty did for the ’90s, and she’s not done yet.
1. The GIF that keeps on GIF-ing
Pusheen started out on the internet as just cute stickers on Facebook and gifs on Tumblr by artist Claire Belton and Andrew Duff all the way back in 2010, but this chubby tabby cat has become a cultural phenomenon
2. She’s Tumblr-famous
If you go on Tumblr, you’ll see that Pusheen the cat is still very much alive and well on the blue hellsite many bloggers call home. With videos, introductions to new characters, links, and countless gifs, Pusheen’s Tumblr remains a thing of beauty.
3. Cutest Comics and How-To’s
While there are many iterations of Pusheen now-including the majestic Pusheenicorn-and many of her wonderful adorable friends, one of Pusheen’s original functions was as a short, moving comic strip, and she definitely hasn’t forgotten her roots. You can still find her short comics on her Tumblr, Instagram or on Facebook!
4. Our Lazy Queen
This friendly tabby baby feels to me like the long lost lovechild between Garfield and Hello Kitty, bringing with her the ‘kawaii’ cuteness factor of Hello Kitty, with some of the lazy (sometimes snarky) attitude of that gluttonous orange cat. It’s rare that you find yourself not thinking #mood when looking at any of Pusheen’s posts… wouldn’t all college students rather be sleeping or eating than doing life today, anyway?
5. Totally Pawsome Merch
Whoever runs their Instagram accounts is a pro-there are so many cute posts about Pusheen and their merch that you will be seriously tempted into getting something. And yes, this version of the stuffed Pusheen is called a Squisheen. I know. I can’t get it over it, either.
6. Merch but Make It Fashion
Pusheen’s merch isn’t limited to stuffed animals and little collectibles either. With hats and scarves, dresses, t-shirts, rompers and more, Pusheen’s collection is something that you wouldn’t feel embarrassed as a college-aged guy or gal to be caught wearing. This isn’t your little sister’s kitty-but don’t worry, there’s stuff for her, too.
7. Inclusive AF
Did I mention that they actually sell super cute bathing suits? Well, they do, and on top of that, they come in sizes up to 4XL. Pusheen’s Instagram campaign does a great job of highlighting different body types to show that Pusheen is an all-inclusive cat. (And a plus-sized one at that!)
8. Get Organized
Pusheen can actually help you get organized with all of her stationery: cute pencils, paper, notebooks and more! I haven’t been this excited about stationary since…okay, I get excited every time I get stationary, but this is even cuter than usual. (I’m not going to lie, though, my favorite might actually be the pencil case. )
9. Actual Cat (Themed) Cafe
More than just a place to get cute cookies with Pusheen’s face on it (though there’s that too), this partnership between Pusheen and Kumoya Cafe offers all kinds of delicious Pusheen-inspired food that is more than a little Instagram-worthy. Now, unfortunately, this cute pop-up cafe has only shown up in Singapore so far, but with the advent of the Hello Kitty Cafes showing up this past year, one can only hope we’ll get a Pusheen cafe in the US of A soon!
10. Quizzes and Horoscopes
In case you needed some monthly adorableness tailored to you personally, Pusheen has horoscopes. That’s right, you can find your sign straight from the cat’s mouth. On top of this adorableness, you can also find quizzes and free wallpapers regularly just by visiting her website or following Pusheen on Instagram.
