People always associate procrastination with laziness and wasting time, which in a lot of cases, is true. However, what if occasionally procrastinating could actually be a good thing?

Procrastination has always been associated with an extremely negative connotation. People always associate procrastination with laziness and wasting time, which in a lot of cases, is true. However, what if occasionally procrastinating could actually be a good thing?

There is such a thing as healthy procrastination. Now, I know some of you will read that and think it’s an oxymoron but, it’s true. Don’t believe me? Ok, here are 5 reasons that procrastinating might not be so bad for you after all….

1. Better Focus

You may think that procrastinating means you don’t have any focus but that’s not necessarily true. When you wait to write an article or start a course project, you’ll find that you may possess much better focus than you normally would because you know you have to get things done.

2. Flourishing Creativity

Your creativity can definitely get a boost when you procrastinate. Let’s say you were about to paint a painting of something but you kept putting it off. Then, while procrastinating, you came across an image or had a conversation with someone that sparked a whole new creative idea for your piece. That would show how procrastinating was helpful for you and your creativity.

3. More Concise To-Do List

We all have our weekly to-do lists where nine times out of ten, only half the stuff on our lists get done. Procrastinating on our to-do list can help us realize what actually needs to get done versus what doesn’t. Basically, we are able to do the tasks that are most important and eliminate the ones that aren’t.

4. Improved Time Management

Now I know that procrastination and time management are rarely if ever in a marriage so to speak but, they can be. When you have procrastinated to the point that you haven’t done what you needed to do, your time management skills can miraculously kick in. You’ll be able to decipher the allotted time you need to do what you need to do and when it all needs to be complete by.

5. Better Decision Making

Sometimes, we all have the tendency to make rash decisions based on our anxieties, fears and worries. With procrastination though, that isn’t likely to happen. When you procrastinate on making a decision about something, you are giving yourself the time you and your mind need to thoroughly think things through before you decide on anything.
