Choosing a college is a big deal! Here are five reasons why I chose to go to the University of Nevada.
Obviously parties and getting away from home is a plus of college, but the whole reason you’re there is for an education. The University of Nevada, Reno is nationally ranked as a Tier 1 university! Also, all of the professors are so knowledgeable in the courses they’re teaching. As long as you put in the work, your professors will be there to help you out! In addition to how great their academics are, they have so many amazing majors to choose from!
Whether it’s taking on the Rebels or traveling across the country, we always have pack pride. The school spirit here is amazing! Everyone is proud to be a part of the wolf pack and they rep it with pride.
College is definitely not cheap and unfortunately, the price is still rising. The other college I was considering was not only across the country, but also about $30,000 more than UNR. Luckily, University of Nevada, Reno has a good in-state tuition of about $8,000! (not including fees, room and board, etc.) I know what you’re thinking, this only helps Nevada state residents, but UNR is also part of a program called Western University Exchange, WUE for short. WUE gives reduced tuition to residents of western states in the U.S. In addition to all of this, they also have numerous scholarships and grants that you can apply for. It’s definitely a great deal!
I live in Nevada, so going to UNR was a smart choice as it’s only about an eight hour drive or an hour long flight. It’s the perfect distance that if I needed to, I could come home for the weekend, but I also get the freedom where my parents can’t just show up whenever they like. Also UNR is only about a four hour drive from San Francisco, which would make for a great weekend getaway! It’s also located only about an hour away from Lake Tahoe!
I do know a few people that I grew up with that are also attending college here and I’m so glad our friendships get to continue! I’m even more excited about all the new friendships that UNR will give me though. At the University of Nevada, there are over 200 clubs to join and greek life to get involved in. This was a major reason as to why I chose UNR!
