Choosing a college is hard. Some people work extremely hard for the first eighteen years of their lives in hopes of getting into the college of their dreams. Others have ideas…and sometimes people have no clue. Realistically, as a Florida resident, I knew that I would not be able to attend University of California, San Diego (but a girl can dream). So I applied like crazy to several in state colleges. Ideally, I would have loved to go to FSU…but my heart told me that it was not the college for me; and being the anxious and over-thinking person that I am, I created pros and cons lists for every college I got accepted to. The University of Central Florida won by a landslide. These are my five reasons why I chose to go to the University of Central Florida!
As someone that has a deep want to help people, I want to understand them more. I have been blessed with a gift of empathy (although though sometimes, being able to cry almost always on demand does not seem like a blessing). With such a high amount of students graduating with psychology degrees, it means that I am beyond capable of also obtaining my degree.
Which means that making friends is so much easier. Being incredibly introverted like I am is terrifying when you think you will be all alone. However, I was comforted by the fact that there are so many people that are going through the same motions as I am– which means that there has ought to be another person that was having the same thoughts as me. Two semesters after beginning at UCF, I am now surrounded by amazing people that I know care about me. That’s amazing considering I thought I would be doing things by myself for the longest time.
As a music enthusiast, living (basically) in Orlando means that lesser known artists (like Eric Hutchinson) visit the local bars and tickets are extremely inexpensive. However, that means more mainstream artists (that I still manage to hold near and dear to my heart such as Twenty-One Pilots) also visit. Although I don’t come from a small town, Jacksonville doesn’t always get as many artists as Orlando does. And the feeling of concert-going is such one that is unmatched by others.
I had to mention it. As someone that knows basically any Golden Age Disney song, of course the proximity (and the student discount) was just the icing on the cake in my decision to choose UCF. But for my more thrill-seeking friends, Universal is also very close and this makes the decision in opting into an annual pass at either park a very good investment. Plus, the student discounts that UCF offers for parks or even just the Orlando Eye is something worth looking into.
Anyone that knows me could vouch for me that I absolutely adore things that are aesthetically pleasing. As soon as I stepped foot on the campus, I immediately was able to picture myself going to class every day (yes, I mean every day). As much as I wanted to attend FSU, the campus was not for me because I absolutely adore newer things. My love for UCF and its beautiful campus has only grown from my very first visit.
