There are many reasons why someone may choose to attend a college or university. While some people’s reasoning may be bland, others may have a wild history as to why they attend their current school. Here are my five reasons why I chose to go to Stephen F. Austin State University.

1. Change Of Scenery

I am from Fort Worth, Texas, the bustling city part. I started to grow tired of the city scene so I decided to spruce up my life with a little bit of countryside living. I can firmly say that it is all that I expected…bugs and all.

2. “Because my sister said so”

Going to school with your sister is one thing, but attending the same elementary, high school and college with them is another. I originally wanted to attend a rival university, their name will not be said because I am still ashamed to this day, but my sister warned me that if I “attend that school, I will never talk to you again.” Did I mention that she had a car at the time and I didn’t?

3. Axe Handles

As a tradition here at SFA, students get the opportunity to decorate and own axe handles. After all, we are “Lumberjacks” aren’t we?

4. Purple Everything

Purple looks very good on me. Why not attend a university that offers just about everything wrapped in a purple bow? If you ask me, it was a package, waiting to be opened.

5. New People

And when I say new people, I mean just about that. Less than 1% of graduates from my high school attended SFA my freshman year. Let’s just say I was very appreciative of that.
