Life at KSU has definitely been and will continue to be some of the best years of my life. When I was touring colleges back in high school, I couldn’t find another university that had everything I needed like Kent does. And honestly, I wouldn’t want to. I could never see myself graduating elsewhere. There are so many reasons why I chose to go to Kent State University! Read on to find out why my decision to become a golden flash was as easy as spotting a black squirrel on the first day of the fall semester.
The Fashion School stands out from all of the reasons why I chose to go to Kent State University. Kent State’s Fashion Design and Merchandising programs are ranked 2nd and 3rd in the country. I never knew you could major in fashion, nor did I think I could ever make a career from it. That is, until I went on my Kent State campus tour. I couldn’t believe that a career in fashion was in reach for a small-town girl like me. The day I officially declared myself a “fashion merchandising major” was easily the best decision I’ve ever made in my entire life. It’s truly my favorite thing whenever someone asks me about my major, because I am just so proud to have found something that I enjoy and love enough to make my career. So thank you Kent State, I am forever grateful.
Well..the facility in which it’s located. As superficial as it might sound, the Student Recreational and Wellness Center was too good to resist. I mean, who doesn’t want a super cool and super modern gym at their school? It sure does motivate me to stay fit. Plus, with all the features like three floors of different exercising categories, two pools, one hot tub, saunas, racquetball courts, and rockwall climbing, you would always have something new to do if you ever got tired of dumbbells and treadmills. The rec center itself may not be the most conventional, but to me, it’s one of the best reasons to go to KSU.
Studying abroad is something many incoming students consider when picking their school. Kent’s programs are definitely notable in this category. The Fashion School offers programs in which you could study in Florence, Paris, and Hong Kong. I’ve even heard of students going to Germany and Greece as well! KSU gives you the opportunity to travel all over the world. But for me, the most important semester will be when I’m studying in The Big Apple. I was sold when I found out Kent had a studio in New York because I wouldn’t have to go through the trouble of making connections in the city alone and I could do it in the comfort of my own school too.
It may not be as great as Drake’s views in Toronto, but hey I’ll take it. KSU’s up-to-date buildings and architecture are a major pros of being a flash and one of the reasons why I chose to go to Kent State University. It could be covered in snow, sunshine, or red and orange leaves. No matter what, campus is always so beautiful. Other schools that I’ve visited were crowded and didn’t feel homey. But here, when I walk across front campus and I look up and see the sun peaking through the trees, it makes 8am classes more bearable. And sitting in the Architecture building with meal plan Starbucks and a ten page paper to write is actually less stressful when you have huge windows that give the perfect view of the sun setting on Downtown Kent’s skyline. Kent State University really eases the transition of moving out by giving students a campus that is so great, you could call it your second home.
They say you shouldn’t pick your school based on where your friends go, and I technically didn’t. I just felt comfortable at Kent State because I knew a few people also going to the school, but I never thought that I’d get so close with those same people. Technically, I could make great friends at any school. But at Kent State, I found myself in the mix of such great people and ever since, we’ve been making the best memories while trying to sneak past RAs, walking to College Street, and laughing over Prentice wraps. I’m so very lucky that it worked out in my favor that my best option for school also brought me to my best friends. KSU is really one of a kind. #FlashesForever
Kent State University has many accredited programs such as for the fashion school, JMC program, architecture, nursing and many more. I am a Broadcast Journalism major so that’s why I transferred.
Kent State University has the number one on-campus television station in the country for three straight years now. The station is called TV2KSU, and I am very much involved, and the hands on experience is also why I transferred to Kent State University.
Kent State University is near Cleveland, and Akron along with some places close to Columbus. The location was important for me because there are a lot of job and internship opportunities in these cities that reach out to KSU students not only because of locality but also because we have so many accredited programs it makes students look more marketable for jobs.
I noticed when I went on my first tour around the campus that the students and professors were more sophisticated, or more organized than the college I was at. The students also seemed on top of their game with looking well dressed and organized, which I liked because it gave me a sense of being well dressed as if they were going to jobs everyday.
The clubs and organizations were very important to me because I am double minoring in Marketing and Public Relations so being a part of PRSSA, which is the Public Relations Club allows me to do real work experience and it looks great on my resume.
Am I the only person who takes a Universities colors in consideration when researching schools? If I am, I am totally fine with it. Dark blue and gold are easy colors to match clothes with, #blessed.
Kent State actually has been recognized several times by having the best campus food around the U.S. There is even a whole dining hall with gluten free food, the first ever in the United States. And surprisingly, 10/10 would recommend. But you also can’t really complain when there is a Starbucks that takes meal plan.
