Miami is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. That’s partly because of the tropical climate and because all of the different kinds of people you get to meet. Right in the heart of Miami is Florida International University (FIU), and it combines everything great about Miami along with an awesome learning experience. It has great programs, majors, minors, certificates, and organizations to choose from. That’s why I’m going to share 5 reasons why I decided to attend this beautiful school and why you should too!
I mean, this is pretty self-explanatory. Who doesn’t like being by the water? Biscayne Bay is such a beautiful place. FIU has patio benches right by the water, which makes it very convenient to be able to study, or just chill out. There are a bunch of other places for you to be able to study or do homework by the water, too. It’s one of the most peaceful places on campus, and has allowed me and a bunch of other students to relieve a lot of stress.
For the small amount of time I’ve been here, FIU has helped me to break out of my shell. I’ve joined a student organization that has helped me to refine my passion and speak out for it. I’ve discovered talents that I have, that others see in me as well. I definitely plan on developing them! But having the outlet and the people to be able to uncover that in me was one of the best experiences.
There’s this one professor who is just sooo amazing. She really cares about her students and she tells us things that no other professor has ever talked to us about. She is so real about life after college and what we’ll run into if we’re not careful. She’s making sure that we’re all equipped with our resumes, cover letters and other documents. The best part about it? She had us get them checked by professionals so that we could use them for the real world.
Every Wednesday by the library, there are tables set up and decorated with natural and organic products. There are natural juices, fruits, vegan baked goods and so many other things. There are few places on campus where you can go and get something healthy to eat, but on Wednesdays, you can definitely feed yourself some good food. It’s right next to Starbucks so you might have to struggle a little bit. I know how hard it is resisting that Mocha Frappucino. I’m right there with you.
When important issues are at the forefront of the news, and even when they aren’t, there are students somewhere on campus talking about it. Sometimes there are peaceful demonstrations, other times there are just symbols and signs educating students about a certain issue. For example, when immigration and President Trump’s wall was starting to really affect people, students were sharing their stories about immigration right in front of the fountain near CP. News crews were present and the whole 9. When students use their voices, everyone has to listen.
