5 Reasons Why I Chose To Go To Arizona State University

Arizona State University is a diverse and large college to say the least, with four different campuses and around 82,000 students. However, although the number of students may be overwhelming and the number of campuses, ASU offers an unique and rewarding experience for the numerous types of people who attend college. ASU is what you make it, it can be an artsy school, a party school, and professional school. Most students aren’t turned away and when accepted they are forever welcomed into the Sun Devil Family with open pitch forks and stories for a lifetime. There is rarely a dull moment, with our number one rivalry UofA where we have no pity for the kitty, our traditions new and old, and the school striving to stay on top with innovation. Growing and adapting for the generations to come, ASU offers a college experience that is worth all the required college tests, the last four years of high school, and anyone itching for a change. Here are 5 reasons why I chose to go to Arizona State University.

1. Locations

Yes, locations as in more than one. Arizona State University is one of the largest public colleges in the United States. ASU has four locations: the main campus Tempe, Downtown Phoenix, West, and Polytechnic. Each offering a new and unique experience that any student would be able to flourish and adapt to easily. All campuses are a short distance within each other allowing students from each campus to travel to the artsy district of Downtown, the college town of Tempe, the relaxed feel of West, and the knowledgeable campus of Polytechnic.

2. School Spirit

We bleed maroon and gold every day and when we win everyone can feel it (even so when we lose). School spirit can be seen on any student and faculty member at ASU. Walking around campus on Monday you will see a sea full of maroon from one building to the next. On Friday, there is so much gold it can be blinding. Each take pride in Sparky and our performance by flashing our school colors or any ASU gear with a fork em’ in the air. With numerous traditions from the famous Inferno, Pat’s Walk, Sparky, the Palm Walk, and “A” Mountain to name a few everyone participates in these activities even to the less festive of students. This is probably one of the best reasons to go to Arizona State University!

3. Weather

SUN, SUN, and more SUN. An average of 296 sunny days in a year in the beautiful state of Arizona. The weather is PERFECT and if one is missing some snow a short drive can take you right up to Flagstaff where there is enough snow for anyone. Being in the heart of Arizona, there are numerous towns that one can travel to, to get any type of weather they wish. Did I mention the sunsets? The sunsets are unbelievable with swirls of pink and blue mixing together to make a childlike dream in the sky. I know there are amazing sunsets in numerous towns and states across the country but nothing compares to Arizona’s. Plus, during the summer, Arizona has an amazing Monsoon Season where the lightening that lights up the sky and anyone who loves rain will be in Heaven. How can one not want to to go to Arizona State University with this kind of weather?

4. Resources

There is an endless amount of resources at ASU from faculty who are there for you every step of the way, tutoring services, counseling, and even outside of ASU there are resources to keep students busy, having fun, and on track. Faculty at ASU is committed to students exceeding. There are numerous resources available for student success: tutors, the writing center, office hours, and online tutoring if in person isn’t your thing. If there is ever a problem or spark of fear or doubt the sun devil family is there from students to professors and even deans. The surroundings of ASU are dedicated in making sure that ASU students enjoy every ounce of the college experience. Go to Mill Ave and take a look around at all the businesses around there that support the Sun Devils. It oozes pride for ASU just take a glance and I’ll bet you spot ASU memorabilia somewhere.

5. Innovation

For the second straight year in a row the once well-known party school is flipping its image by being the number one school in innovation. ASU offers students numerous opportunities to excel in entrepreneurship among other things. ASU has topped Stanford, MIT, and even the University of Maryland. Through the last couple of years, ASU has teamed up with major businesses PayPal and Starbucks amongst others offering help with tuition and producing student jobs. ASU President Michael M. Crow has stated, “We do things differently, and we constantly try new approaches.” This has led ASU to come to new heights and building a better name for itself.
