Adding weightlifting to my workout routines absolutely changed the way I saw myself as a woman but it also began to shape and tone my body in ways I didn’t think was possible. Weightlifting brought me more confidence and strength in my daily life pushing me to take on any and every challenge without being phased. Here are the five reasons you need weightlifting in your life!
You’ll be surprised by how much you can lift and when you can lift heavy it’ll become addicting! Whenever I’m in the gym I want to see just how much more I can push myself to do and those are the moments I am most proud of my drive and ability to take on challenges. Once you hit the goal to lift X amount of weight or you’re able to do more than last week you’ll realize your strength. Seeing just how much you can do will without a doubt change how you see yourself changing up your mental and physical strength.
Confidence and strength really go hand in hand when it comes to weightlifting. Once you get comfortable in the weight room around all those massive dudes lifting 70 plus pounds, you’ll realize that you have every right to be there! Don’t let those guys affect your ability to lift heavy and challenge yourself.
That time you carved out for yourself at the gym, it’s your time and you can choose what you wish to do with it in order to find whatever it is you’re looking for. When you come out of your shell and do things like lifting heavy or entering and staying in the weight room when you never thought you would, you’ll find confidence within yourself.
One thing that is really awesome about weightlifting is that it shapes and tones your body so that cardio becomes something you do to get your heart rate up. Cardio can be great for fat loss but weightlifting is even better. You’ll find yourself excited to get to the squat rack and even more excited to skip out on the 30 minutes of cardio.
Don’t get me wrong, cardio is great especially to warm you up! utilize cardio as a HIIT workout before or after lifting to get your heart rate up and burn off fat. I always do between five and fifteen minutes on either the treadmill or stair master before lifting so that I get a bit of a heart pump before lifting.
Change your ideas on what weightlifting means and what it will give you. It may bring about bodily changes but weightlifting is truly about pushing yourself, getting out of your box, and finding confidence in the strength of your body and power of the mind. You’re not going to bulk up, and actually, it will take a very long time until you can bulk up and grow muscle. Unless your overloading on calories you will not get bigger. Your fat will shrink and muscles will grow but in all, you’ll get smaller because muscle takes up less space than fat.
When thinking about changing perspectives, the best advice I can give you is to stay away from the scale. A lot of scales can be inaccurate and they won’t tell you how much muscle, confidence or power of the mind you’ve gained. Be okay with gaining and let go of the mindset of losing. When you focus on what you’ll gain through weightlifting then you’ll only experience a massive amount of abundance from the goals you set.
Like I said before, cardio is great for getting your heart rate up and keeping your heart healthy! But if you want to re-shape your body and tone up your booty, legs or arms then weightlifting will be the best way to do that! It won’t happen overnight, but when you are consistent with healthy and balanced eating and your lifting, then you will see a change!
Get uncomfortable with weightlifting and allow yourself a good challenge! You won’t regret it months from now when you are feeling positive, confident and ready to take on the world! Try it out and see if it’s something you like, you’ll never know until you try!
