10 Reasons To Love Fall At USC
Let’s be honest, USC is difficult not to love equally year-round, but that’s not to say that fall at USC isn’t special. The campus energy is in high gear, as continuing students are excited to be back “home” and incoming freshman and transfers are full of nervous excitement about their new beginning. Though the air isn’t exactly chilly, and most of the leaves stay on the trees, USC’s campus life takes on the fall SoCal style. Here are ten reasons to love USC during the fall.
1. The weather remains perfect.
Here in Southern California, it never really gets “cold” per se, so fall on campus is less of an intro to winter than it is a summer “cool-down”. Come early-October, the heat waves are just about over and you’ll be walking around campus in perfect, sunny, 75-degree weather. Yes.
2. You feel especially productive!
After the long summer break, USC students collectively jump back into the fast-paced fall semester without any lag time. Between going to class, attending a club meeting at 4pm, an internship interview and studying for your midterms, you get into a constant flow of energy that seems to sweep up all of campus as the air gets just a tad cooler—and you love being apart of it.
3. It’s time to let your inner fashionista out.
You know those Tumbler and Instagram fall-fashion accounts that pair high-waisted shorts, a bodysuit, thick socks and chunky heels together in the middle of October? Yeah, well, only on our warm USC campus can we actually pull that off without freezing our butts off in the middle of October! No holding back now—the fall weather is the perfect time to make campus your runway.
4. Campus’s pseudo-fall appearance.
We see you Bovard Auditorium, with your stunning architecture and gorgeous landscaping. And you, Doheny Library, with your nostalgic and autumn-esque display. But… thank gosh its just a fall-façade! Its 75 degrees on this late September afternoon, and you’re heading in for a mid-term study-sesh, iced coffee in hand and Raybands on—*sigh* you love the fall.
5. Game Days!
For many students, fall at USC means one thing…football! And even if it’s not your defining element of fall, its bound to be a huge part of it! The level school spirit that comes out of every Trojan, sports fan or not, on game day, is something that can only be understood as you head over to the Coliseum with your best friends, decked out in cardinal and gold, in the warm autumn sun.
6. Pre-gaming, AKA “Tailgating”.
Ok, so lets be honest. Would game day really be game day without tailgating? NO. So fall just wouldn’t be complete without the two working together to boost USC’s fall-vibe six weekends out of the semester—and that’s just home games!
7. Song Girl Skirts
Along with all that sports-induced school spirit of football season comes the return of both girls and guy’s favorite piece of clothing—USC “Song Girl” skirts! Us girls just can’t resist raiding the bookstore for those super cute mini-skirts that the enviable Song Girls get to cheer in on the field. And guys …well, they’re equally enthused.
8. The on-campus Starbucks sells PSLs!
Yes, that’s right! #Basic or not, the annual comeback of the pumpkin spice latte is basically the unofficial real first day of fall. So it’s hard to contain the excitement of walking into “TroGro’s” 24-hr Starbucks to see that your shameless fall-fave addiction is here on campus!!
9. Parents Weekend!
Ok, so you’re happily independent while on campus—it’s void of parental control and their constant input. But, parent weekend is a whole different story! You actually can’t wait to show your parents around the place you call your second home, and its actually pretty fun to have them around for the weekend—three days—the perfect dose.
10. Thanksgiving with the President!
No, not the Obama family…C.L Max Nikias, our university president! Nikias understands that not everyone can go home for the four-day weekend—plane tickets are expensive!! His solution? He welcomes every student on campus to Thanksgiving dinner at his own home!! Talk about a prime example of the “Trojan Family” bond during fall at USC!
