Pumpkin spice and football around every corner, fall is starting to touch down on the Storrs campus. Involvement fair behind us, clubs and sports will soon be in full swing. Students love fall for many reasons, but here are some of the best reasons to love fall at UConn!
Fall means Sweet Madeline’s booth on Fairfield Way almost every day. Many of the organizations on campus use it for fundraising. Getting apple cider donuts for $1 each is great for the college student budget, and it is perfect to warm you up on these breezy fall days.
September means the start of NCAA and NFL football. Supporting our Huskies and our favorite pros extend to fill our whole weekend. This will last until February, so get ready for the screams and cheers.
This also means a lot of tailgating, and students can now park at P&W for only $10. Come just for the pregame, or come to watch the Huskies!
The perfect team bonding activity. Orchards like Horse Listeners Orchard in Ashford are a perfect place to make new friends at the beginning of a new season, and you’ll have plenty of fruit for the coming weeks.
In mid-September UConn athletics offered their yearly student lottery for basketball tickets. Winners of this lottery get first grabs for season tickets to both the men’s and women’s games. And, to celebrate the basketball capital of the world, every October we have first night to get everyone hyped for the upcoming season. With Gampel packed with students and the UConn fan community alike it is one thing you definitely want to cross off your UConn Bucket List.
Fall means college open house, which means showing your room, signing up to help lost families, and tabling for your organization in Gampel. Get ready to meet the class of 2021!
Thanks to Dunkin, and their sponsorship of the New England Patriots, every time the Pats win your medium hot or iced coffee is only 87 cents this season! This means long lines in the U for your Monday morning caffeine fix.
Rocking this year’s theme of Music Tours in Storrs, homecoming will be here very soon! There will be the annual parade, carnival, royalty pageant, football game, and, of course, lip sync! Get ready to take part in one of UConn’s biggest events of the year!
Family weekend includes many events for freshmen and their families during fall at UConn. Most people will either go home, or their family will make the trip up to Storrs for picnics, breakfasts, and receptions. Thanksgiving break also constitutes the only holiday that we get days off for in the fall semester (minus Labor Day, which is too early in the semester to count). These are two of the only times many people will go home, so many will count down the days until these events.
Seriously, have you seen UConn and Horsebarn Hill during fall?!
With the new bookstore’s huge selection of apparel, get ready to bundle up in your favorite UConn sweatshirts, and break out your sweaters!
