Springtime brings many things to look forward to: warmer days, green foliage, the end of the school semester, and spring cleaning. Just as the world around us begins to revive after a long winter, spring cleaning is a way for us to clear out the clutter in our homes and start fresh. Many people tend to hate it the idea since they believe it’s just an excuse to clean all season, but really, it’s an opportunity to take a heavy weight off our shoulders since we don’t realize how much stuff in our homes we actually don’t use. It’s also good to actually dust off the corners and wipe down the windows that we normally miss. Here are five reasons to get started with spring cleaning!
You know that feeling you get when you accomplish something and you can just lay back and see all the work you did? That’s the feeling you’ll get once you finish your spring cleaning! Once you have actually scrubbed the floors well, reorganized your desk and living room, and all the other chores you were dreading, you will be satisfied that you went through with it and conquered the obstacle! Also, you will really appreciate actually being able to navigate through your own home and find the things you’re looking for instead of searching through a pile of junk all the time!
We’re all guilty of letting our closet get messier and messier all year long. We continuously pack it with more boxes of stuff we want to put away even if we never plan to take it back out. Don’t even get me started on the amount of clothes we constantly buy and never actually wear! It all goes into that endless collection we keep in our closets. Well, spring cleaning is a great time to go through all those clothes and boxes and toss out the stuff we haven’t used in a while. Sometimes it helps to think of the space you are making for new clothes on your next shopping binge! Just please only buy stuff you know you’ll wear more than once!
I think my favorite thing about spring cleaning is the chance you get to redecorate. Your tastes have surely changed much from a few years back, so you should definitely make your living space reflect your new personal style! Add in new posters for the stuff you’re into now, hang up small lights to brighten your home, and even get a new rug! Whatever you can think of, be your own main source of inspiration and always be creative!
Once you’ve gone through a bunch of old boxes and drawers that you haven’t opened in years, it’ll really become clear to you which of your possessions hold sentimental value and which you are just hoarding. Take your time while going through everything, look at old photos and journals, nick nacks you’ve collected over the years, an old boyfriend’s jacket you still have. Imagine the stuff you can’t live without and let go of the things that don’t really matter anymore. Letting go may seem hard, but it’s easier than you think!
Once you’ve finished with spring cleaning, you’ll be able to take in a deep breath and not feel the weight of stuff that was just laying around. You’ll be proud of yourself for creating a better, cleaner living space and can finally direct your attention to bigger things! More importantly, you’ll come home every day to an apartment that’s decluttered so your mind will be too!
