5 Reasons To Be Excited For The Cleveland Browns Upcoming Season

mm

The Cleveland Browns have been the laughing stock of NFL Football for the past couple of years, but with some nice draft picks, a successful free agency, and a new head coach, this team may be the team to look out for in 2019. Here are 5 reasons to be excited for what’s to come for this Cleveland Browns team.

1. Odell Beckham x Jarvis Landry

Odell Beckham Jr., or OBJ as he’s often referred too, was a fabulous free agency trade move from the Cleveland Browns. A standout from LSU, OBJ was drafted by the New York Giants where he has played since 2014. A 3-time pro bowler, NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year winner, and creator of the famous “one-handed catch,” OBJ is the perfect weapon for quarterback Baker Mayfield. Not only is the pickup by the Cleveland Browns great on its own, but OBJ will also be playing alongside former LSU teammate and wide receiver Jarvis Landry who was a great weapon for Mayfield in the 2018 season. With these two receivers complementing each other, the Cleveland Browns offense is going to be exciting to watch.

2. Head Coach Freddie Kitchens

After firing head coach Hue Jackson in the middle of the 2018 season, defensive coordinator Greg Williams took over temporarily. Now that we are entering the 2019 season, the Cleveland Browns have chosen to give the head coaching position to former offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens. Kitchens played college football at Alabama and has coached in the NFL for 13 years. While this will be his first head coaching job, he is predicted to do a great job with this talented Cleveland Browns team.

3. Baker Mayfield’s Sophomore Season

The Cleveland Browns have been known for their slew of mediocre quarterbacks year after year, but they may have finally found their long-term future quarterback. An Oklahoma Heisman winner and the first pick in the 2018 NFL draft, Baker Mayfield had a spectacular rookie season. He recorded 27 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, and a 63.8 completion percentage, not bad for a rookie leading a team that hadn’t won a game in 635 days. Some are concerned about a possible sophomore slump but with the added offensive weapons and new coaching system, it should be an exciting season for Mayfield fans.

4. An Extremely Young Team

With a second-year quarterback, new head coach and some new additions, this Cleveland Browns team is young in both age and success. The great thing about Cleveland is the expectations are low. They had one of their best records in recent years in 2018, recording a 7-8-1 record with a lot of close games that could have resulted in wins. Although this was still a losing record it showed a positive future for this young team. If they could record 7 wins last season, they should be able to accomplish a 10 win season in 2019 as this team matures.

5. Contenders For The AFC North

Quite frankly, the rest of the AFC North is declining quickly and this gives the Cleveland Browns a solid chance of taking the division. The Pittsburgh Steelers just lost a couple of their top offensive players and have an older declining quarterback, Baltimore can’t seem to figure out how to efficiently use their young and mobile quarterback Lamar Jackson, and the Bengals are, well, they’re the Bengals. If the Cleveland Browns can utilize their weapons, they should be a solid contender for the AFC North and secure a spot in the 2019 playoffs.
