15 Reasons Queens NY Is The City’s Best Kept Secret

Queens NY is a great place to live, let alone go to college! There’s nothing better than going to school at St. John’s University and it makes me never want to leave. But whether or not you attend SJU or even live in proximity to Queens NY, it truly is the best borough in NYC. Keep reading for 15 reasons why Queens NY is the city’s best kept secret and best borough!

1. Queens NY is in really close proximity to Manhattan.

Queen’s closeness to Manhattan makes it easy to be in the hustle and bustle of the city and the traditional idea of New York City.

2. …Yet, the neighborhood feel is real.

Queens NY is unique because while it is considered part of the city, it still has a regular neighborhood feel. Not many places are able to say that.

3. We have the Great Lawn at SJU.

The Great Lawn is the best place to hang out and relax when you just need some downtime. It offers great nature time in a big city!

4. There are truly limitless takeout options.

Queens NY is one of the most culturally diverse places in the country, and there’s no better way to see this than through the food! There are so many options around campus, from Italian to Chinese to Japanese to Thai; the options are endless.

5. You can walk anywhere you need to go.

One of the best parts of living in Queens NY is how easy everything is to get to on foot. Being at school in Queens NY means I don’t have to stress about finding a ride or keeping track of my car, because I’m already on my feet walking there!

6. The freedom Queens NY offers to its students and millennials.

Coming home from school means having responsibilities. When I am in Queens, I feel like I can do anything I want whenever I want. I love Queens because it means I am free from the rules of living at home with my parents.

7. The closeness to people your age and friends.

At school, my friends are always right next-door or just on the other side of campus. It’s much easier to make plans when you all live in the same Queens NY zip code and are not scattered all across the country.

8. The amenities Queens NY has to offer.

Like St. John’s, Queens also has so much to offer its students. From recreational gyms to libraries, it’s easy to take advantage of them. Actually, these reasons alone are why I would stay in the area.

9. The diversity of people and places.

Walking around Queens NY and the SJU campus, I see a new face every day. It’s so much easier to meet people at college than it is out in the real world.

10. The. Easy. Access. To. Coffee.

With both a Starbucks and a Dunkin on the SJU campus, and hundreds more outside in Queens NY, I’ve never felt more dependent on caffeine in my life. The locations are so convenient and make my midday hump that much easier to get over… I don’t know if it will be like that back at home.

11. The Queens NY social scene.

As a 21-year-old, my social life is at its peak right now. I have the ability to go out whenever I want, and I am given so many options as to where I pursue my legal-ness. There is basically a bar everywhere I turn.

12. How understanding places around Queens NY can be of student discounts.

Though I’m broke a good majority of the time, I still love getting a good deal. Certain places, like Caffé Bene, offer a student discount to St. John’s students. I can’t say that any place in Pennsylvania will honor that for me.

13. The people.

Over the last four years, I’ve grown lasting bonds with the people molding your minds for the next steps of your life. Some of them have made huge impacts on our lives and it is hard to deal with leaving them.

14. The school sporting events.

There is nothing quite like being a member of the student section at any sporting event. And the fact that they expect you to graduate and sit in alumni sections instead? Disgusting!

15. We have Astoria Park.

Many people from NYC don’t even know that this place exists. It truly is amazing!
