While I must admit that becoming a buckeye was only my dream starting my Senior year of high school, I am already head over heels for this school. I am not even from Ohio, and I already hate the state of Michigan and call back to an O-H with an I-O. It doesn’t take long to fall in love with this amazing university, and here are some reasons why I’m excited to start at OSU.
The football games are just the start! The Buckeye spirit is something that can be found in, future, present, and past students. There is an immense amount of spirit-wear that will refill my closet after going through and cleansing it of all of my high school spirit wear. In addition to the clothes, sports, and the spirit, is the networking and alumni association. Everywhere I go, I can find a Buckeye. There are many stories that you hear about how someone was across the world and ran into a group of Ohio State alumni. It is this great pride for the school, and the culture, that creates a great networking system for Ohio State students to utilize, as we strive for our dream careers.
OSU lays right in the city of Columbus, OH, which is perfect for fun adventures on the weekends. The city bus is free for students and is the easiest way to get to the best spots. With multiple regions, such as the Short North, German Village, and the Arena District, the downtown area has something for everyone. Columbus is well known for their arts community, with art shows and events to experience year-round. The nightlife in the downtown area is perfect for college students, with a great music scene as well. With tons of festivals and activities, and easy accessibility; Columbus, OH, as a result, is the perfect place for me to explore over these next four years!
The Oval is considered to be the center of campus and is the perfect spot for studying, relaxing, and socializing. On one of the first days after move-in-day is the clubs fair, which is held right on the oval. This fair is the perfect opportunity to find clubs that will best fit us, while allowing for a fun way to start getting involved and meeting people on campus. Whenever there is an opportunity for free food or activities, it can be found on the oval.
This may sound crazy, but I am so excited to finally be able to decorate my room. While I know that I will be sharing the small space, I know that half of it is mine to be creative with. I get to pick a color scheme and storage, in addition to extra decorations. There are so many options for dorm room decoration, featured in magazines and on social media sites; which makes researching and designing a great activity for the summer.
I would like to consider myself a foodie; so whenever I go to a new place, one of the most influential factors in the evaluation is the food. In conclusion, the Midwest has the best food, hands down. It is comfort food galore. A couple of the most famous fast food restaurants started in Ohio such as, Wendy’s, Skyline Chili, Donatos Pizzeria, Marco’s Pizza, Tim Hortons, White Castle, and Bob Evans. Many of these are located right off of campus, so they are easy to get to if time allows. Most importantly is Buckeye Donuts. It is located right off campus on High Street and it is open 24/7. Like many of the restaurants located on High Street, Buckeye Donuts accepts our BuckID cards, which is perfect for a change of pace from the dining halls.
