5 Reasons I’m Excited To Start At Ole Miss
Ole Miss is known for it’s southern vibes and good times! These two characteristics are the reasons that many students choose to attend the university; however, there are many other reasons to be excited for freshman year at Ole Miss, other than the promise of a good time. Here are five other reasons I am excited for Ole Miss and why you should be too! Hotty Toddy!
1. Greek Life
This one may be more generic, but it truly is one of the main reasons I am excited for Ole Miss. For many people part of the reason they choose to go to Ole Miss is for the Greek life alone. The reputation of the Greek community at the University of Mississippi is recognized as one of the best nationally, resulting in a large turnout for rush every year. Whether people choose to join Greek life for the parties and cute t-shirts or for the friends and potential work connections, most everyone would agree that it is an experience that is unforgettable. With that being said I can’t wait to run home along with thousands of other girls on bid day this fall!
2. Walking Everywhere
Another reason I am excited for Ole Miss is because I will have the ability to walk everywhere on campus. Even though the University of Mississippi is a large, public, state school, the campus is small enough to be able to walk everywhere. Whether you’re walking from class to class or from your dorm to the student union, everything is in walking distance. Aside from my personal enjoyment of walking everywhere I go with my headphones in, being able to walk to class could also help avoid the Freshman Fifteen, which I think everyone should be excited about.
3. Gorgeous Campus
From the older, more historic buildings, like Ventress Hall and the Lyceum, to the relatively new residence halls and newly renovated Student Union, there is not an unlovely spot on campus. Everywhere you go you can see either a beautiful old building, or the attractive ten acre field that is the Grove. Of all the college campus’ that I visited, I can honestly say that not one of the other school’s campus’ could compare to that of Ole Miss’.
4. Top Academic Programs
Academics may not be the first thing people think of when they think of Ole Miss; however Ole Miss does have some top programs. For example, their nationally ranked accounting program. Since this is my major, I am extremely excited to be a part of such an acclaimed program. They also have programs, such as the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College and Center for Manufacturing Excellence. These are also looked highly on by potential future employers.
5. Tailgating in the Grove
When it comes to tailgating, no one does it better than Ole Miss. It all begins on trashcan Friday when the sea of blue and red trashcans can be seen covering the Grove; following with thousands of tents filled with good home cooked food for the game. Students then come dressed in their Sunday best, matching the corresponding color given for each game day. When it is almost game time, everyone watches as the football team makes their way to the stadium. They pass through the Walk of Champions Arch, then making their way through the crowd of fans. The Grove on game day is an incredible experience I am truly excited for during my time at Ole Miss!
