5 Reasons I Can’t Wait To Go To School At Ole Miss
Whether you are a transfer, freshman, non-traditional student, we all chose Ole Miss for a plethora of reasons. Ole Miss has a lot to offer every different type of student. Whether you are coming from high school, you have been out of school for 20 years, community college, or somewhere from China, Ole Miss truly accommodates all walks of life. The real question is why are you excited to take a leap of faith into this institution? What is keeping you up anxiously at night? What topics are you binge watching YouTube videos on at 2 a.m.? Here are 5 reasons why I am excited to start my journey at Ole Miss.
1. I am a southern girl in a northern girl’s body.
I love everything about the south, even though I didn’t grow up in it. I love the fact you don’t have to ask for sweet tea, it’s just expected. Even more so, I love the accents, the southern core values; faith, family, football. I love the fact anyone is willing to help you at whatever it is. Southern hospitality is a real thing! I love that you see women dressed up at the tailgate on Saturday but even more dressed up in church on Sunday. The south is where I belong, it’s just not where I grew up in.
2. I am ready to leave the nest.
We can all agree on that we all love our parents dearly. They raised us and gave us everything we’ve ever needed without putting themselves first. We can all be honest, that around 18-years-old, arguments spur up out of no where. Your patience is on a thin string, you are tired of having eyes over you, and you just want that freedom you so direly need. I love my parents more than anything in the world, but I need to be on my own. It just works better that way.
3. I want to make unforgettable friends.
The two things I want to have when I leave college is a degree and an amazing group of friends that I know will be at my wedding. I want those friends that you can call at 2 a.m. to go get fast food or sit with you on the bathroom floor in the middle of the night because you are upset. The friends that know to start pressing the camera even when you aren’t posed for a picture because they know if you don’t have 100 candid pictures on your phone you won’t be satisfied.
4. I want to make those memories of a lifetime.
Whether I am tailgating in The Grove on a crisp fall afternoon, at The Levee every Saturday night, or having a bonfire on Sardis Lake, I want those memories whether they were picturesque or off the record. I believe those moments of impact create who you are when you graduate. I will remember those days and nights far longer than a piece of knowledge I learn in a classroom.
5. I want to explore all of the food options the small town of Oxford offers.
If there is one thing that makes me happier than anything you could give me, it is food. Oxford has 200+ restaurants for a town of 20,000. I don’t think my wallet or time allows me to try them all, but I will try to hit some of the best ones we have. You can never go wrong with some southern comfort food with a bunch of your girlfriends on a Saturday night before you go out.
