Ranking All The Marvel Movies From Worst To Best
In honor of Spiderman: No Way Home coming out soon, on December 17, it is time we look back at all of the previous Marvel movies and rank them from worst to best. Ranking marvel movies is a touchy subject, everyone has their own strong opinions about it, especially those who are die hard fans and have read the comics. If you’re a Marvel fanatic, you may disagree with my ranking, and don’t kill me for it. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a global phenomenon that has taken hold of Hollywood as one of the largest collection of films and has gained a huge following from people all over the world. It holds close to the heart’s of many as many of us have grown up watching these movies in theaters. When Avengers: Endgame came out it was huge, it meant it was the end of an era, and for many of us it was time to move on to the next chapter, just like Marvel is doing with their next wave of films. Read through this ranking as you anticipate the release of the next Spiderman movie that we’re all so close to finally seeing.
26. The Incredible Hulk
Coming in dead last at number 26, we have The Incredible Hulk. Hulk was the only character that Marvel had to recast as in this film he is played by actor Edward Norton, and then replaced by Mark Ruffalo in the first Avengers movie. Since he was recast, nobody really thinks of this movie as being in the MCU since Hulk is not played by the iconic Mark Ruffalo. For this reason alone, sorry Edward Norton, but The Incredible Hulk has to be in last place.
25. Thor: The Dark World
You make think that this movie deserves to be of higher ranking, but I just have never been a fan of the Thor movies. I haven’t gone back to rewatch any of them and I would rather watch a trilogy about Loki if I’m being honest. Loki is just the more interesting character which is why the Marvel Series Loki is so, so good. Even if I did go into existential crisis while watching it.
24. Ant Man and The Wasp
I don’t think I actually watched this movie, because I really didn’t like the first. Sure, I like Ant-Man’s appearance in the other Marvel films, and his role was critical in Avengers: Endgame, but Ant-Man just isn’t my cup of tea. And I would still rank this above the The Incredible Hulk and Thor: The Dark World, yes, even though I haven’t seen it.
23. Thor
Refer to number 25.
22. Ant-Man
The first is always better than the second, and I would know because I didn’t watch the second. I mean, this one was okay. Quantum physics is something my mind can’t and doesn’t want to grasp. I like Paul Rudd, though.
21. Captain Marvel
This one was just a bust on Marvel’s part. Perhaps if it came out in the earlier phases I would have liked it more. It’s not that it is a bad movie, and it’s not that Brie Larson was a bad choice, I just think that it feels arbitrary coming out so late in the game.
20. Iron Man 2
I love Iron Man and Iron Man 3, but no, no, I did not like this one. It feels like the second in a trilogy ends up always being the worst one.
19. Eternals
The rest of the movies from here on out are ones that I did enjoy, there’s just many of them that it’s hard to rank. Eternals just came out and has a solid cast, a mix of diversity, and it told an entertaining story. It was a good movie. But in no way does it compare the Marvel movies ranked higher on this list. Especially because Ikarus flew into the sun and yeah it’s expected, but too cliche for me. The end credit scene alone, I would rank a solid 10/10. Spoiler Alert – We finally see Harry Styles enter the MCU and I screamed with glee.
18. Black Widow
Black Widow is sort of like Captain Marvel in the sense that I wish it came out in an earlier phase. Black Widow is an amazing character and avenger who deserved so much more than what she got. I loved that Florence Pugh played her sister and think about the scene where she says “Stop, don’t say that, it was real to me”, pretty often for some reason. When the end credits rolled around, I cried. You’ll see this as a theme throughout the rest of these movies for me.
17. Captain America: Civil War
Captain America: Civil War was an entertaining movie, but among the best of ’em. Seeing them fight against each other is like um, guys, you have bigger things to worry about. Little do you know, half of y’all gonna disappear soon when a big purple dude snaps his fingers.
16. Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange is a perfect example of a character with a good arc. He goes from being this egotistical surgeon who knows he’s the best of the best, to a broken man who finds healing and doesn’t take anything for granted. Benedict Cumberbatch is the perfect choice for this role and his character proves to be of great importance when Avengers: Infinity War comes around.
15. Thor: Ragnarok
Forget what I said about the other Thor movies, because this one is pretty good. A funny, lighthearted movie in the MCU that gets more serious in the end. Pretty good.
14. Avengers
I love this movie, seeing all of the Avengers come together is entertaining and incredibly important for the remainder of the films. Seeing Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk is how you say, *chef’s kiss*. Seeing Hulk punch Loki, a classic scene. A good movie that sets up a lot of action for later.
13. Avengers: Age Of Ultron
The addition of Scarlet Witch to the MCU, yay! She is my favorite MCU character, and this movie is just so good. The one thing I can’t get over however is hearing Ultron voiced by the same dude who plays Robert California in The Office. If you know you know.
12. Spiderman: Far From Home
You can put this one and Spiderman: Homecoming in either order really. I’m not a die hard Spiderman fan, but it was a good movie. Seeing Spiderman use his senses when fighting Mysterio on the bridge was sick, though. And I am beyond excited for No Way Home to come out soon!
11. Spiderman: Homecoming
Refer to number 11. Seeing Iron Man take in Spiderman as his mentor means so much more during Infinity War and Endgame. I can’t say anymore or I’ll cry.
10. Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Now we’re getting into the top ten of ranking Marvel movies, how exciting. I could rewatch this movie so many times, and the first one, too. I’m still upset with Starlord dropping the ball with Thanos, but he lost Gamora so I guess it’s okay? The movie in these two films are amazing and Peter Quill’s mixtape has become my own since it’s release.
9. Avengers: Endgame
Where do I start with this one, hmmm. I can’t get over Iron Man dying. Sorry, spoiler alert, but it’s been out for years. I cried like a kid whose balloon flew away. Or when Vision died and Wanda was so upset. Gosh, that was emotional. When Spiderman saw Iron Man again, oof that was tough. I can’t talk about it anymore, I am so sad again.
8. Black Panther
All I can say is that this movie was amazing. And if you don’t agree, then you’re wrong. RIP Chadwick Boseman.
7. Captain America: The First Avenger
I have to ate this movie higher on the list, it is critical movie for all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I have a soft spot for Captain America and any time I hear It’s Been A Long, Long Time, I just see Steve Rodgers finally dancing with Peggy Carter.
6. Avengers: Infinity War
Let’s all agree that Infinity War was better than Endgame. The huge fight scene with so many Marvel superheroes is so good. I love it. The ending was wild in theaters with everyone gasping when they disappeared.
5. Iron Man 3
I wish I could go back and see Iron Man 3 for the first time. This movie deserves to be in the top 5 of all the Marvel movies, by far. Iron Man is what started it all, and so I hold it close to my heart.
4. Guardians Of The Galaxy
Refer to number 1o.
3. Shang Chi
A Marvel movie with plenty of action, comedy, romance, drama, it has it all. This movie is incredible and I can’t wait to see what is next for his character.
2. Iron Man
The movie that started it all. Someone play Back In Black By AC/DC. I will continue to defend Iron Man as being one of the best Marvel movies forever. RDJ is the perfect Iron Man.
1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
And coming in at number 1 is Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This is my favorite Marvel movie yet! Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, oh em gee. The fighting, the action, the storyline, the – everything -is just so good about this movie.
