5 Questions To Ask Your Love Interest Before Getting Serious
We all love the first few months of a new relationship. You’re both on your best behavior, everything is new and exciting, and the world seems to be aligning perfectly… but before you start to talk about your future together, you may want to discuss a few key factors. Have you just spent the last couple of months in blissful ignorance? Do you really know if this person is right for you or have you just been enjoying your time together? I don’t blame you if you are the latter, who wants to interrupt a romantic moment with questions about how they want to discipline their nonexistent children? However, if you are thinking of getting serious with your SO, you may want to consider discussing some important topics. Here are 5 questions to ask your love interest before getting serious.
1. Kids?
This is a question as old as time, but it’s for a reason. Not everyone wants to have kids these days, and some people couldn’t even if they wanted to. You need to know if your dreams of adopting line up with his dreams of having his own little boy. This is one of the most important questions to ask your love interest, as it can make for a source of great tension down the line if your views don’t line up.
2. Residency
This is not the first thing people think to ask their love interest, but it is important and has killed a relationship or two in its day. Where do you want to spend your life? Do you want to move around or stay near your family? If he never wants to move away from his home state and you want a more nomadic life, it probably won’t work out.
3. Money
Money is the root of all relationships failure… ok not ALL, but enough to make it on this list. You need to have an open conversation about everything to do with money. Do you need a lot of it? Does he? How do you plan on earning money? Equally? Will you share a banking account one day? These are questions best settled now than 5 years down the road.
4. Pets
Pets are like children, you kind of need to know if your love interest wants them right away or not. If my husband didn’t want a dog… we would probably be divorced by now.
5. Time
Right now, in the honeymoon phase, you are probably spending all your time together… alone. But that will soon end and when it does, you might want to know how much time he actually will want to spend with you and wither it will be alone or with large groups of people. How does he enjoy spending his time? If he is a social butterfly and you are a homebody who only wants to see him and your dog, you might want to reconsider those wedding bells.
