10 Pros Of Going To College In Your Hometown

While moving away to college can be exciting; staying in your hometown instead definitely has it’s perks. While your friends are off in new cities, broke AF, with no familiar faces; if you stay in your hometown, you can be surrounded by family and have some support while adjusting to the new college lifestyle. So keep reading to check out the 10 pros of going to college in your hometown.

1. FREE laundry

While the majority of your friends use their meal plan money to do laundry, you get to pack it up and wash those dirty clothes at home.

2. Homesick?

Feeling homesick? Lucky for you, the feeling won’t last too long, considering the fact that home is right around the corner. You can also go home during the weekends to sleep in an actual bed, without two other roommates in the room.

3. You save a TON of money.

Out of state tuition can be quite expensive; as well as transportation, plane tickets, etc. Going to college in your hometown will inevitably be cheaper, and your wallet will certainly thank you in the long run.

4. You get to network in your hometown.

Internships, job opportunities, community events; going to a college in your hometown can offer countless networking opportunities right in your very neighborhood! Who knows, perhaps you’ll be able to land your dream job nearby.

5. Your family can come visit.

Orientation weekend, those family BBQ events, and the rest of the family-oriented days that colleges like to offer ensures your family can easily come to all of them. Plus, you can take your family to the campus bookstore, and if you’re lucky, you might even end up with a new sweater for yourself.

6. Moving in/out is a breeze.

While your other college friends are busy packing up their dorm room into boxes to ship to their home states across the country, you just get to load up the car, drive home, and unload within 30 minutes.

7. You can keep up with all your appointments.

Hair appointments, doctor appointments, therapy appointments; your life can continue just the way it is. This is especially helpful when you get the flu, mid-semester, and can head straight to your primary care physician rather than head to some random clinic.

8. You become a valuable asset amongst your college friends.

Rather than going to all the major touristy spots in your hometown, you know exactly where to get the best Mexican food for the best price, and all the best hiking trails. Your friends will thank you.

9. Sick of dorm food? Don’t fret.

One of the best perks of going to college near home is that a real home cooked meal is only a few miles away. Or maybe it’s your favorite hamburger from that local fast food place you guiltily love. Whatever the case, it’s all nearby when you just need a break from dining hall food.

10. Your hometown will have a special place in your heart.

After spending your tumultuous, stressful, and amazing college years in your hometown, not only will you have a newfound appreciation, but it will always have a special place in your heart.
