Positives And Negatives of Lash Extensions
Wanting longer lashes but don’t want to wait for a growth serum to finally work? Maybe you should consider getting your lashes done. An esthetician will apply 80 to 140 lashes per eye with a semi permanent glue that should not irritate you whatsoever. They will apply it to your natural lashes. The esthetician will typically offer a few different lengths and looks. The glue will dry quickly but you won’t be able to get your lashes wet for the next 24 to 48 hours, which is not bad. If you are like me, you can’t decide whether or not to get lash extensions for the first time. Well, I have done a lot of research for us to help make our decisions. Below are some of the biggest positives and negatives for getting lash extensions.
Positives
1. No need to wear makeup
It takes most women 20 to 30 minutes to put on their makeup. Can you imagine how much time you will save if you don’t have to put falsies or mascara on? You won’t have to take anything off after a long night out. You won’t even want to wear makeup anymore because your eyes will look bigger and more defined. It will take away from any dark circles.
2. Better for your skin
When you wear makeup, your skin’s natural oils are removed and you will look more dry and your pores are easier to see. You may start to notice dead skin start to accumulate because of the clogged pores. Clogged pores and dryness will lead to early aging. You will start to see fine lines and wrinkles sooner. Makeup takes away from your natural glow. If you wear makeup a lot, you will experience breakouts. The message here is that women will tend to wear less makeup when they have lash extensions because they give a certain confidence and they will accentuate your eyes and take away from any fine lines or dark circles. You will appear younger. When you take off makeup, you will not be pulling at your skin, which creates fine lines and wrinkles.
3. Shorter makeup routine
If you are going to use makeup, lash extensions will make your routine so much shorter. You won’t have to worry about mascara or putting on falsies. Also, people tend to not even put on eyeshadow or eyeliner once they get extensions. There was a study found in 2020 that women had taken only 11 minutes to put on makeup, while they took about 55 minutes in 2014. Is this because of lash extensions?
4. Don’t worry about mascara
How many times has your mascara smudged? Are you tired of applying mascara everyday? With lash extensions, you won’t have to worry about clumps or your eyelashes sticking together. Since you won’t be constantly taking off your mascara or eye makeup, you may start to experience less wrinkles and fine lines around your eyes.
5. Look good even in the pool
Does anyone else feel like they look like a wet dog in the pool or at the beach? Well, how can you look bad with some long lash extensions? Even though you can’t go in the water up to 48 hours after you get your lashes done, you can still going swimming, go in the ocean or lake, shower, and sweat in them. You won’t have to worry about them just falling out while you are doing any activity. Remember that if you keep them drier most of the time, the longer they will last.
6. Customize your own lashes
You can customize your look to be however you would like. If you like pink lashes, you can add in pink lashes. You and your stylist can discuss what will look best for you and what will be in your budget. Your stylist will ask you how you want your length, fullness, and volume. She will account for your eye shape, so that it fits your face and you won’t look like every other girl with lash extensions.
Negatives
1. Costly
There is no doubt that you look a little bit luxurious when you have lash extensions on. Extensions are very costly and they require a lot of your time. Your first full set will be anywhere between $100 to $300. This will take up to 2 hours. But, you will have to maintain them, which will cost you anywhere from $50 to $150 every 2 to 3 weeks. This will take you up to an hour. If you can afford and make time for this, then this is a good option for you. Really try to calculate it into your schedule and how much it will cost you. If you do decide to do this, you will have to make eyelash care part of your daily beauty routine to make sure that it holds style and lasts. If it is looking a bit too expensive or too much of a hassle, maybe you should stick with strip lashes.
2. Allergies
Some people do have allergic reactions when they get their extensions. You could potentially experience swelling, itching, redness, or styes within a day or 2 after getting your new lashes. To avoid this, you can test to see if you are allergic by performing an allergy test. They can do a patch test on your hand. If you do have an allergic reaction, get the lashes off right away and seek medical attention.
3. Can affect natural lashes
Sadly, you could damage your natural lashes even if your stylist does everything right. As your lashes grow out, the weight makes it harder for your natural lashes to support it. If you talk to your technician, you can discover the best lash for you based on the length and weight. If you rub your lashes, that could lead to even more damage.
