Places to visit in Seattle, Washington

Seattle is always a good idea and I only know that from experience because I have been there many times in the recent years. Yes, it may be known as the “rainy” city, but it’s full of life and culture that will have you not wanting to leave.  And if it does have you wanting to leave, believe me when I say that you will want to go back. I first visited Seattle, Washington in 2016 when I was in a program called Ameri-Corps. One of my friends and I did a road-trip from Sacramento, California all the way up to the striking city. We spent a few days up there and it was definitely not enough, so I went back a few months later when I was promoted to Team Leader and was able to lead a team. Everyone always wants to go other cities in the United States like New York, Orlando, Los Angeles or Dallas. Seattle is almost always the one city that is over-looked because it’s in the corner of the North-West and people forget that it exists. But deep down, it’s a city that is full of wonder with something new around every corner. So, I say it right now, if you have a weekend free and are not sure where to go, go to Seattle. Believe me, you will not regret it.

Here are a few places (food and touristy areas) that I truly enjoyed visiting and hope you do too the next time you travel to the Emerald city:

Biscuit Bitch!

This small breakfast place is located in two places: 1909 1st Avenue near Pikes Place and 2303 3rd Ave in Belltown. The food is to die for and worth every penny you spend, although in reality, it’s not as expensive as breakfast foods may be in other cities like downtown New York. When I went to this place, I got the Easy Bitch! It is biscuits and gravy topped with two over easy eggs. I also got the “Bitches Brew” cold brew coffee. My friend on the other hand got the Bitch-wich which is a buttered biscuit with eggs, cheddar cheese, a delicious (although spicy) Louisiana hot link and bitchy sauce with a Blackberry Iced tea for a drink. It’s a hidden gem that is a must place go to for breakfast, especially if you have a busy day a head exploring the city and don’t have time for a sit down breakfast.

Pikes Place Market

You can’t go to Seattle and not visit the 108-year-old famous market which draws in over 10 million visitors every year. It’s famous for the food shops, fishmongers (where they sometimes throw fish to you!) and crafts people who are selling their own goods for you to keep. The energy is vigorous with people around every corner taking photos, trying food and being the curious humans we all truly are. My favorite part about this place is seeing how happy everyone is to be there, despite how chaotic it can be with the vast amount of people who are there. It’s beyond doubt a sight to see. Would you like to know what else is cool? The famous Seattle Gum wall is located next to the entrance of Pikes Place, so while you’re on your way inside, chew some gum and stick it on the wall for everywhere to see!

Seattle Great Wheel

What is another great way to view the city from above other than plane? Ride the 175-foot-tall Seattle Great Wheel and you will see why SO many people go on this tourist attraction to see the city. Not only is it fun and reasonably priced, but you may also make some friends who are in the same cubby as you! I for one enjoyed my time observing the city from a different angle. I was able to spot buildings I didn’t see while on the ground, gain a different perspective on their width and height and overall, it was a magical experience. In fact, my friends went on it three times total all in one round. It takes approximately twenty-minutes to all the way around which is more than enough times to take videos and pictures while you’re on Pier 57 overlooking the water and magical views that lay in front (or behind) you.

Discovery Park

Often times, we as people who adore the city, forget that it’s acceptable to get away from the hustle and bustle and relax. That’s why going to a park is never a terrible idea. It’s soothing for the soul, it’s quieter from the millions of people in one spot and one exponential gain is the nature that they entail. Parks are scenic with animals and pleasing views from almost every direction. It’s a wonderful way to take a mental break and have quick (or long) refresh. Discovery Park is not far from the city. One of my best-friends and I took a bus here from the center part of the city. With the many stops, it took approximately an hour to get here. I would say an uber or rental car would be faster, especially if you are in a big need to get away from the city. Visit Discovery Park during the weekend after you’re finished with your list of things to do or if you just want a relaxing afternoon and want to listen to the birds sing.

Space Needle

Anyone who travels to Seattle always knows that the Space Needle is one or if not the top place to visit in the city. It is a 605-ft tall spire almost exactly in the middle of the city. It has a rotating restaurant and observation deck where you can view Seattle from a 360-degree view. I have been in the space needle three times, but it has since been renovated so it is slightly different—the biggest reason with it having glass floors. I am scared of heights so I’m not entirely sure if I could go up in the Space Needle again due to this new change, but if you are not, then all glory to you! The sights surely are beautiful and I felt on top of the world when observing the city from the top. I particularly enjoyed going in it at night when the city lights are clearly visible. I found it to be truly magical, sights that I will remember for the rest of my life. So, if you’re here for even a short weekend, do whatever you can to go in the Space Needle. I promise you, you will not regret waiting in line to go all the way to the top to see the world.
