10 Places To Shop Sustainably Online

As more and more people move to online shopping to fulfill their retail therapy needs, it often proves as difficult to avoid fast fashion. Fast fashion are those brands releasing tons of new styles almost every week, pricing their items high and holding frequent flash sales, often holding unethical manufacturing practices and greatly contributing to the degradation of our environment. Although it’s easy to fall into their traps of pretty websites and pop-ups in your Instagram feed, fast fashion brands often source from countries where environmental laws are more lax, as well as unethical in their employment practices, often underpaying workers and forcing them to work in unhealthy and dangerous conditions. Unfortunately, many are still unaware of the harmful practices that aren’t seen by consumers, there are other options out there! And don’t worry! You can still online shop to your heart’s desire, you just need to know the right places. Some things to look for when looking for sustainable fashion:

  • Sustainable fashion: made in the USA (or a country with similar environmental laws relating to pollution and emissions; avoid stores that source from China and other Asian countries!)
  • Read about the company. Make sure they are dedicated to manufacturing sustainably or sourcing from recycled or pre-owned materials.
  • Make sure the company is ethical in their employment practices and pays respect to not only the Earth but its people.

Shopping second-hand is a great alternative to fast-fashion companies and promotes sustainable fashion while still keeping you looking and feeling amazing. Here are 10 places to shop sustainable fashion online that won’t break the bank, but are great alternatives to fast fashion.

1. Frankie Collective

Frankie Collective is your new go-to destination for all things vintage and reworked streetwear. Focused on recycling luxury items and vintage sportswear from popular brands, whether you’re looking for a festival outfit or just a wardrobe refresh, Frankie has got your back. Pick up a reworked Supreme bralette, a Nike bag, or a vintage Calvin Klein jacket. Frankie Collective is fresh and new in the most genuine and honest way, leading the way for other streetwear companies to dedicate their manufacturing to reducing their carbon footprint.

2. Awoke Vintage

Awoke Vintage is one of my favorite places to thrift great quality and carefully selected clothing and accessories. They sell through Instagram, so all you have to do is DM them with the posted items you want to purchase, they’ll email you your invoice, and your items will be on their way from New York City!
