10 Places To Get Work Done That Aren’t Coffee Shops

Having a go-to workplace is so important for us freelancers. Coffee shops are great for doing freelance work, but sometimes it’s good to switch up your surroundings a bit. Here are a few other spots to go when you need to get work done.

1. The library

There’s nothing better than being able to get work done in the comfort of a quiet and serene library. Most many libraries open their doors to the public with decent free wifi at your convenience. If you go to a public library, you portably won’t even need to purchase a library card to use the space unless you plan on checking out a book.

2. Shared co-working spaces

Co-working spaces are the latest trend in the milenium business world. It’s a space where young professionals can collaborate with other like minded individuals, or work indificualy in a modern, vibrant setting. Many of these spaces are colorful, bright, and inspiring inside. Finding a co-working spaces throughout major cities such as Boston and New York City is super easy. Check out liquidspace.com to find a co-working station near you! Some places even offer day passes for as little as $15!

3. Private office rentals

If you’re somebody who works best in private, renting your own private desk or office is a viable option. These spaces may cost you an arm and a leg, but it’s totally an option for you to get work done in a clean, calm environment. Many of these rentals include free wifi, a kitchen area to use as you please, your own personal and lockable desk space, endless amount of free coffee, 24/7 access to the workspace, a variety of networking events, meeting room rentals, and so much more!

4. Restaurants

Fast food joints that offer a quick bite with a small seating area are prime for getting work done without being distracted. You can plop yourself down in a corner booth solo, pop your headphones in, and get work done. Most of the time these spots have free easily assessable wifi and the staff totally won’t notice if you sit there for hours on end. It’s a win-win I’d say.

5. College campuses

College campuses are a great place to get work done, in a relaxed and casual environment. The majority of major universities have access to lounge areas inside the main buildings that are usually filled with couches to sit on, ports to charge your device, an array of tables to work at, chairs to sit on, and maybe even a cute little window-side reading nook. If you’re lucky enough, you may even be able to score a free student wifi pass for the day.

6. Museums

Many public museums offer free admission with a student card (no matter how old you are). If not,  several others will offer great deals and discounts throughout the work week. These places tend to have decent free wifi and some type of built-in cafe so that you can grab something to eat and drink while getting to work.

7. Outside

There is nothing like taking the office on a field trip outdoors on a nice, sunny day. Bring your laptop and sit out on a patio or rooftop deck and get to work. The sun will provide extra endorphins to increase your creative flow and boost your spirits. (AKA you will totally get work done.)

8. Hotel Lobbies

Most hotel lobbies are a total ghost town when it’s midday and during work hours. You’ll have unlimited access to fast wifi, ample amounts of free caffeine, and a quiet space to get work done. Another bonus is that most lobbies are super spacious, so if you have any phone calls to make, it won’t be an issue with making too much noise. There MAY even be happy hour deals you can check out at the bar too, just sayin’.

If you are in need of an extra boost or just a bit of inspiration to get down to business, any of these spaces will give you motivation to keep on working! Just because you aren’t at a coffee shop, doesn’t mean that coffee shouldn’t be involved, just saying!
