Whether you’ve just finished syllabus week or are struggling to balance all 10+ clubs you belong to, there will be a time (or 20) when you feel like you just can’t anymore. It may seem like places to cry are few and far between (it’s a small campus after all), but a little scouring is all it takes to find that perfect spot. Here are 10 places to cry when just can’t anymore at Emerson!
Chances are, if you’re in the library you’re probably already crying over your Mac, your open textbook, and your coffee/Redbull. Luckily, the library is a maze with plenty of corners and cubicles to hide your pre-exam/midterms/finals tears.
The sounds of the machines will drown out your sobs as you wait for your clothes to dry.
While it’s practically a rite of passage as an Emersonian to be at least 5 minutes late to class with an Einstein’s bagel and/or coffee in hand, this little café provides a couple of tables in the back (if you’re a private cryer) and a scenic view of Boston Common for you to admire while you weep into your latte. We’ve all been there, we’ll understand.
Piano Row’s Max Café is open until 2 am most nights, so you can salt your late-night curly fries with your stress-fueled tears. Bon appétit!
Whether you bathe in your in-suite shower (lucky you) or decide on a more communal approach, chances are the sounds of your cries will be muffled by the sounds of the water and the melodic voices of Musical Theater majors (and other talented performance enthusiasts) nearby.
Whether you prefer a covert approach and choose the bleachers, or have a dramatic flair and decide to sit on the gazebo steps, you can rest assured that bawling over your collegiate stresses will be the least eye-catching (or weird) thing that happens here.
If you’ve got a musical inclination (or just like the sounds of a piano), you can reserve some time in these soundproofed safe havens to unleash your wails. “Mary Had a Little Lamb” can be interpreted dramatically, right?
Nobody will guess your real reason for crying isn’t the elegance of the theater or the way the actors just sang their hearts out. Or maybe it is. Maybe it’s a lot of reasons, but it couldn’t hurt to at least distract yourself with an hour or two of culture with local talent.
If all else fails, you can bury your head in your pillow and cry into a pint of your favorite Ben and Jerry’s flavor ice cream. Your roommate (if you have one) will likely understand your pain.
If you’re genuinely feeling overwhelmed at school, don’t be afraid to reach out to the on-campus counseling services. It’s free, and they’re happy to help. College is hard! You don’t have to take it on alone.
