10 Places in Boston To Treat Your Sweet Tooth

Exploring a city like Boston can work up quite the sweets craving. Luckily, there is no shortage of places in Boston for you to satisfy your sweet tooth. Here are ten places in Boston to treat yourself!

1. Max Brenner

Max Brenner in Back Bay centers on all things chocolate. The chocolate bar and restaurant has an extensive dessert menu, so much so that you may find it difficult to choose just one thing to satisfy your cravings. There are creative and unique items on that dessert menu that you won’t find anywhere else, like Chocolate Chunks Pizza, which comes with melted milk and white chocolate chunks and topping options like peanut butter and roasted marshmallows. You can even get a melted chocolate shot in the form of a Chocolate Syringe if you’re in the mood for just straight chocolate.

2. JP Licks

JP Licks is an ice cream store chain with various locations around the city of Boston and the state of Massachusetts. At JP Licks, you can find classic ice cream flavors, like chocolate, vanilla, and mint chip. There is also a rotating selection of featured flavors, like the new Cocoa Pebbles flavor which includes chocolate ice cream with Cocoa Pebbles cereal mixed in. If you’re in the mood for something other than ice cream, some locations offer soft serve frozen yogurt with different flavors based on location.

3. Boston Burger Company

One of Boston Burger Company’s main claims to fame, other than their unbeatable burgers, is their Freak Frappes, which are extravagant milkshakes with unique flavor combinations. One of my personal favorites is the S’more Than You Can Handle, which is a frozen hot chocolate frappe with a graham cracker rim and chocolate sauce. It even comes with a giant s’more on top. These Freak Frappes are so huge that you’ll have to share them, but they’re so amazing that you really won’t want to. Boston Burger Company has four locations in the Boston area with a fifth location on the way.

4. Blackbird Doughnuts

Massachusetts may be known for Dunkin Donuts, but some of the best doughnuts around can be found at the various Blackbird Doughnuts locations around Boston. Blackbird carries the classic doughnut favorites, like the Boston Creme and Chocolate Sprinkle. There is also a selection of seasonal flavors, like the Very Berry Coffee Cake and the Mocha Chip doughnut. If you’re not looking for doughnuts, Blackbird offers a variety of other options to satisfy your sweet tooth. One of these options is the Blueberry Pancake Fitter, which is made with Maine blueberries and is finished off with a maple glaze.

5. FoMu

You can still get in on the sweet tooth satisfyers even if you’re someone who doesn’t consume animal products. FoMu serves plant based ice cream, as their ice cream is made from coconut milk and natural sweeteners. And just because FoMu’s ice cream is plant based doesn’t mean it’s boring or bland. There are a ton of unique flavors that FoMu offers up to satisfy your sweet tooth. One of these flavors is the Magic Bar ice cream, which is made with dulce de coconut ice cream and blended with coconut, toasted pecans, dark chocolate chips, and oat crumble. FoMu has a number of cafes located around the Boston area as well as the occasional popup store.

6. Thinking Cup

While the Thinking Cup is more of a coffee shop than a traditional dessert shop like some of the other places featured on this list, there are still plenty of options for you to treat your sweet tooth. On a cold Boston winter’s day, there’s no better way to satisfy your sweet tooth than with a Thinking Cup Belgian Hot Chocolate. It’s one of the richest and thickest hot chocolates you’ll ever have. It tastes like you’re sipping down a melted chocolate bar. There are also some solid snack and dessert options at the Thinking Cup. They have French macarons in a variety of flavors, rich and decadent cakes by the slice, and so much more.

7. Taiyaki NYC – Boston

Taiyaki is a Japanese fish shaped cake, and Taiyaki NYC specializes in serving ice cream in fish shaped cones. If you happen to be in the Seaport district of Boston, this taiyaki ice cream might be worth a try if you’re looking for a way to satisfy your sweet tooth. There are a handful of signature Taiyaki for you to choose from, each of which comes with it’s own special toppings. The Unicorn Taiyaki, for example, comes with your choice of ice cream flavor in a red bean taiyaki cone, unicorn sprinkles, and even unicorn horns and ears. The special attention to detail is what sets Taiyaki NYC apart, so you can satisfy your sweet tooth while getting a totally Instagram worthy picture at the same time.

8. Insomnia Cookies

Tons of college campuses have an Insomnia Cookies store somewhere nearby, because nothing says “college experience” quite like indulging on a warm and gooey cookie in your dorm room at 1 in the morning. Boston is known for being a college city, so there are three Insomnia Cookie locations in the Boston area.

Insomnia Cookies makes all of the traditional cookies you know and love, like chocolate chip, sugar cookies, and snickerdoodles. And for more adventurous snack-seekers, they also offer a selection of deluxe cookies, like the chocolate peanut butter cup cookie or the s’mores cookie.

As a cherry on top, you can even get Insomnia Cookies delivered to you until midnight or 1 am if you live close enough to a store.

9. Georgetown Cupcake

Georgetown Cupcakes seeks to satisfy your sweet tooth with designer cupcakes. They have classics that are available every day as well as rotating daily and monthly specials. It’s the perfect option to curb your sweets cravings during a busy shopping day on Newbury Street.

10. Lulu’s Sweet Shoppe

Sometime’s the only thing you’re looking for to satisfy your sweet tooth is some candy, and Lulu’s Sweet Shoppe is here to help with that. Lulu’s offers a wide variety of candy, including popular favorites as well as old vintage candy classics. What could be better for your sweet tooth than a good old candy shop?
