Deciding to attend THE OSU was one of the best decisions I ever made. From the walking on the Oval to cheering for the best damn football team in the land, it has been the time of my life and I know I feel the same way from the hundreds of pictures that pop onto my Instagram timeline every week. Keep reading to see 15 pictures that will make you wish you were starting school at OSU tomorrow!
Carmen Ohio is the first thing you’re taught at Freshman orientation and it definitely sticks with you because it is sung ALL THE TIME but, ironically, you’ll never tire of it. It shows all the reasons people love OSU – the friends, the good times, the pride – it all makes your experience so worthwhile.
Oh come let’s sing Ohio’s praise
And songs to Alma Mater raise
While our hearts rebounding thrill
With joy which death alone can still
Summer’s heat or winter’s cold
The seasons pass the years will roll
Time and change will surely (truly) show
How firm thy friendship … OHIO!
These jolly days of priceless worth
By far the gladdest days on earth
Soon will pass and we not know
How dearly we love Ohio
We should strive to keep thy name
Of fair repute and spotless fame
So in college halls we’ll grow
And love thee better … OHIO!
Though age may dim our mem’ry’s store
We’ll think of happy days of yore
True to friend and frank to foe
As sturdy sons of Ohio
If on seas of care we roll
Neath blackened sky or barren shoal
Thoughts of thee bid darkness go
Dear Alma Mater…OHIO!
College is often the place you’re told you’ll find yourself, but that doesn’t mean you can’t also find the best friends of your life. Between being stressed out for your calc exam to having someone hold your hair at Bulls, friends are a necessity and luckily OSU has 45,831 to offer you!
“Block! Block! Block!” – Hundreds of students chant this simple word every Saturday as we pregame to then take on whatever team will be losing to the bucks that day. Block szn is pretty standard with girls wearing cropped anything OSU and frat boys handing out Natty’s and Four Loko’s like there’s no tomorrow. It may be cold or rainy, but no matter the weather you’ll be sure to never forget it.
Beauty is often said to be in the eye of the beholder, but at OSU everyone can agree that it’s one of the most beautiful campuses in the country across all four seasons. Whether the oval is covered in snow or leaves are falling around Thompson, it’s always the right time/place to snap a photo. I mean just look at what a beaut Independence Hall looks in this photo:
Greek life is definitely present on our campus just like any other school, but just like everything else we do, OSU does it better. Everything is extra and on the surface sororities and frats may look basic af, but they do actually make a difference for the community and make for great friends. Yes, there’s drinking and going out, but there’s also study tables and movie nights so don’t overlook these girls!
If you know anything about Ohio State, then you probably know about Brutus. Yes, our mascot is a man with a Buckeye nut as a head, but what you may not know is that this nut is beloved and is the epitome of the OSU spirit. You can find him all over but always in the Union where you can snap a cute photo!
The Short North is one of Columbus is hottest areas for arts, clothing, and restaurants. It’s great for a night out hitting the bars (if you’re 21+ of course) or gallery hopping the first Saturday of each month. You can see hundreds of art exhibits, special performers, and inhale great food all in one night. And it’s all just a free ride away with your Buck ID on the COTA!
BuckeyeThon is the largest student-run philanthropy in the state and has personally been one of the lights of my OSU career. Getting involved in student orgs is an awesome way to meet people and do something for the community. OSU has 1000+ student orgs ranging from the Pizza Club (they notify members when other clubs are giving out free pizza) to Undergraduate Student Government. Get involved!!!
OUAB (Ohio Union Activities Board) always does an amazing job at getting people to perform such as Ke$ha, Zedd, Rupi Kuar, Hassan Minhaj, and others who all come for free!!! That’s right – I said FREE. I recommend following OUAB on social media to stay updated on all the events they hold so you can stay up-to-date on your fav people!
Coffee is something all college students have either learned to love or have forced down their throats at some point due to an excruciatingly long study sesh, but nevertheless coffee definitely has a place in our lives. I’ll let you in on a few little secrets:
The sheer number of dogs that roam OSU is crazy. You can’t walk from class to the oval without seeing a cute pupper and often they’re service dogs which just makes you love them even more because they’re working so hard. I mean, look at that face!
Have you ever wanted to go to another country? I don’t know why you wouldn’t! OSU has so many places you can visit for just a month or for a semester. Study abroad is such a cool opportunity and it can give you not only great photos for Instagram but also killer memories and friends. I mean who wouldn’t want to live it up in France with delicious food or in Spain for delicious boys? Just check out how much fun these students had visiting Denmark!
Working out is super important and because of the RPAC, JO South, and JO North, OSU makes it super easy! There are rock climbing walls, Zumba classes, yoga, and of course a sweet smoothie bar. It’s a great stress reliever and you never know when could meet that cute S.O. or just get fit to impress your own damn self!
Columbus prides itself on having a great food scene and OSU students get to reap all the benefits. Because students can ride the bus for free and often get discounted tickets for restaurants and bars, it’s easy to get lost in the sea of deliciousness. From tacos at Condado’s to grilled cheese at Melt, you’ll never be hungry, just a little broke. But I mean what college student isn’t?
Graduation seems so far away when you’re a baby freshman just finishing your very first semester but time does fly. OSU offers 200+ majors and after four years of studying, getting involved, and making great friends, it’s time to say goodbye and go into the workforce that you are prepared for. It may be sad to walk across the Shoe one last time, but knowing all that awaits you is so worth it.
So, if you haven’t already figured it out, Ohio State is wonderful and attending was one of the best decisions I ever made. If these pictures don’t already show it, OSU students are slaying both in and out of the classroom and are making their dreams come true. Ohio State may be a large university, but there is a place waiting for you. You don’t have to find your place at Ohio State because Ohio State already has a place waiting for you when you’re ready to come and take it.
