The Christmas season is upon us! Your favorite Christmas tunes are playing on practically every radio station, you’re bringing out your most-loved winter coats and hats and you’re running around like crazy trying to find the perfect gifts for your family and friends. It’s the busiest time of year for a lot of us. One part about Christmas that truly makes this holiday magical are the elaborate decorations. But if you’re like me, and live in a small-sized apartment, then finding ways to display your festivity can be tricky. These seven Christmas decorations are the perfect additions to make your apartment merry and bright this year.
Christmas wreaths are one decoration that you see all over the place during this time of the year. Some that are itty bitty and others that are larger than life itself. There are many variations of Christmas wreaths too, and if you can’t find that one that is to your taste, then you can make your own! This is one of my favorite Christmas decorations because it can easily be hung up anywhere in the apartment, and not take up any precious space. Personally, I prefer to hang my blue spruce pinecone wreath on my front door, but it would also work great hung up on one of the walls inside. Or you could even hang it on one of the doors inside if you don’t feel comfortable with putting it on your walls or on your front door. Christmas wreaths will help in bringing the merriness of the season into your apartment, but won’t make you feel crowded.
Garland feels like one of those often over-looked Christmas decorations, which is a complete shame because they make a beautiful addition to any living space, especially apartments. This tried and true decoration can work perfectly if you have cabinets in your kitchen that don’t go all the way to the ceiling. A lot of people leave the tops of those cabinets bare, so why not give it a little love and attention once a year? Garland looks beautiful atop any kitchen cabinets, and can make your kitchen look quite festive. If you’re lucky like me, and happen to have a fireplace with a small mantel in your living room, garland can also look stunning strung up there. This is one of my favorite looks for this Christmas decoration, because it makes the fireplace look that much more cozy and inviting, plus, it’s a totally classic look. Another place for Christmas garland, if you lack a fireplace and your kitchen cabinets do touch the ceiling, is over entry ways within your apartment. The garland will still look beautiful hung up there, and will give you that feeling of Christmas spirit every time you walk through.
There’s just something special about Christmas figurines. These little guys are super adorable, and are the perfect decorations for your small apartment! You can buy just one or start a collection; honestly, there are tons of options out there. One of my favorite Christmas figurines that I got last year is a small gnome, or Nisse as they’re known in Norway, who sits on my couch during the season. He’s the cutest little thing, and doesn’t take up much room either. I love keeping Christmas figurines all over my apartment in places that usually stay bare throughout the year. They look very festive on top of tv stands and bookshelves if they’re small enough. You can also buy larger figurines and set them on your couch like I do with my Nisse. These Christmas decorations are the perfect accompaniment to deck out your small living space!
I’ll start off by saying this, you can’t have Christmas without a Christmas tree. It’s such a vital Christmas decoration, but I do understand that not all of us have the room for a full-blown tree. An ideal solution for this is to buy a Christmas tree on a smaller scale. They’re super easy to find, and they won’t take up much space! Most places have various-sized little trees that are either real or fake, and if you want to get the most out of your tiny Christmas tree, then I suggest buying a fake one. I also recommend buying a tree that already has lights built into it, because wrapping a Christmas tree that small with a strand of lights is no easy task. These cute baby trees can be placed anywhere in your apartment, and you could even purchase two of them if you would like one inside and one outside on your balcony. Most retail stores like Hobby Lobby and Michaels also sell ornaments that are made for little trees, but if you have your own ornaments, you can still use those as well! So, get out there and find yourself the perfect little Christmas tree this season!
This is one Christmas decoration that is super easy to put up and show your Christmas cheer. One of my favorites things about Christmas lights are how they still look very festive by themselves; there’s really no need to have other decorations accompanying the lights. A favorite place to hang up these lights are on my balcony, where I just tastefully wrap them around the railings, and am finished in less than 10 minutes. But if you live in an apartment where you don’t have a balcony, then no fear, you can still string them up inside! They work perfectly strung up around the frames of windows, and can add a pretty, yet joyful glow. This Christmas decoration can also work great for doorways in your apartment, or on the walls (just be mindful not to make too many holes if you’re one to worry about getting most of your security deposit back)! Colored lights work the best in my opinion, but clear and blue are also superb options. This is one Christmas decoration that will bring a bit of holiday cheer to your little home.
Snowflakes are a lovely Christmas decoration that can add some cheer to your apartment! There are tons of different ideas too that you can utilize with this certain decoration. You can hang them from the ceiling or in front of your windows to mimic the looking of softly falling snow. You can also put them up on your walls or windows in cool little patterns. I love making snowflake decorations myself, but I get that not all of us are super artsy or have the time to do this. You can just as easily buy them at your favorite craft store! This Christmas decoration brightens up your small apartment by bringing in the beautiful winter wonderland from outside. It’s also one decoration that the kids will enjoy, and love helping you put up this season. This is a Christmas decoration that is so beautiful and simple to achieve.
A traditional Christmas decoration that is both gorgeous and colorful is the Poinsettia. Known as the Christmas flower, Poinsettias can add that air of merriness to any small apartment. These beautiful flowers only bloom in December, so are quite popular during this time of year. Usually these flowers come in the color red, but they also have been grown in the colors pink, white, yellow and orange. Personally, I love the red Poinsettias, but I’m also a person of tradition. Growing up, my grandparents would always have a stunning red Poinsettia tastefully placed in their living room; it was always one of my favorite things to see at Christmas as a kid. This Christmas flower is ideal for small apartments because they don’t take up much space, and they’re an easy decoration that you can pick up without having to fuss about any sort of assembly. And if you’re not a green thumb like me, then you can buy a fake one that can be reused year after year! These charmingly festive flowers would make a wonderful Christmas decoration for any apartment.
